running board supports?

iv noticed that the running boards on my phazer are a little weak. all i do is play off trail with it, so i want to be able to stand up. any fixes for this? the tunnel itself is pretty thin, so i didnt know if anything would hold in. thanks
 
Ya I've noticed that too on mine.I was thinking of adding running board supports.Does anyone think this would work?
 
Its funny you guys brought this up. I have the same thing going on. I made a set of supports out of 16 gage galvanized steel. I just haven't had the nerve to drill into my tunnel yet. I am hoping someone else has done this and can give a good yah or neh on the idea.
 
Bender Racing used to offer running board stiffners. All it was, was a piece of DOM (Drawn Over Mandrel) Chromemoly tube about .120 thick wall inserted into the running board edge. the stiffner ran from the front of the footwell to almost the end of the running board. Then you rivet the end so that the stiffner doesn't work its way out.
If someone gets me a dimension of the diameter of the running board edge I wll check pricing for the material to help you guys out. Tracy (pm me with the inof)
 
Why not buy a set of tunnel brackets from a newer sled? I would think you could pick up a set pretty cheap on ebay from any sled manufacture. You may have to mod the bracket a little, but on a Phazer, I dont think there is anything in the way.
Yamaha usually has them in the accesories catalog also.

im thinking that just a few pieces of steel bent to match the angle of the tunnel/running board would do the trick. ill put rod/tube down the sides also. with big risers, an the 1.5 inch track its awsome in the powder.

You can buy aftermarket ones. Check the snowmobile parts suppliers.

I have also looked into buying running boards off a newer sled and mounting them on the phazer…wasn’t confident that was the best direction though. I think the best thing to do is buy an extra axle to mount in the tunnel, the phazer tunnels are quiet flimsy where it rolls into the running board. You can add some additional 3”x3” plates on both sides of the axle on the inside of the tunnel to spread the load out a little. I tried putting a rod down the rolled outer edge of the running board, but found that if you don’t connect to the bulk head or tunnel which require you make custom brackets of some sort, it really does nothing. I used an 80-20 aluminum bracket on the floor of the running board with plates underneath for additional support. This helped a lot! And actually is quite comfortable riding…my boot goes right over it.
