Viper voltage

Hi,
A buddy's viper is down on voltage. Says it's running less than 12V.

Any suggestions what he should be looking at?

how do I check them? where are they? what color wires do i check and what do I look for?

What makes you think it's not right?

can't get 12 volts at the headlight.

I tried to check the voltage off the stator (3 white wires) like in the link. can't get a reading at all - no matter if just pulling the cord or with it running. checked voltage at the headlight again just to make sure the tester was working and it is. so whats it mean? Am i doing it wrong? I put the test probes on each of the 3 wires (2 at a time of course) in different combinations (i'm sure thats what it said to do).
Can't take resistance readings as i can't get it to a location where the temp is high enough.

you check 1 at a time with the other probe grouded. the three wires are all hot.
