Got a 1990 Phazer2 that had no spark. With some research on here I ck'ed and replaced the coil. 3rd pull and BOOM, it starts right up. I pull it out of the garage, let it idle a bit and begin test ride around the yard. Suddenly it felt as if it were running out of gas. Let off the throttle, feather it and it would go again. Shut it off, put it back in the garage and now no spark again!!! The lights won't even light while pulling it over. There seems to be 12v at the white/red wire coming from the stator while pulling over. I gues I am looking for some sort of test for the CDI box. Does the CDI control lighting as well? There is an empty white wire from the stator that I assume is for charging battery on electric start sled. This too has 12v while pulling over eng.

Wel, Il tried a known good CDI--still no spark. I think this sled is headed for the salvage yard.
Could be a TORS problem (throttle over-ride system). It shuts off the machine if the throttle gets stuck open but yours may be malfunctioning. I think they had them on the Phazer II. Are there a couple wires that connect to the carbs right by the throttle cable? If so, there should be some plastic connectors, unplug them and plug the two that come from the engine into each other. This should bypass the system.
