rpm's for ice

In 660' what should the final rpm be to keep it pulling to the gate. I'm coming across the line at about 8300, had someone tell me to keep it at about 8000, I think he's full of it but he swears by it.Also, will a 21-40 gear combo work w/ a 68 link chain.

I dont believe that a 68 link will work with a 21-40.

Out of the hole 8100rpm, a stock 99 SRX makes peak torque at about 8100 rpm. You want peak torque for acceleration, by mid track you should be at max topend rpm about 8350 (max HP), remember, torque is acceleration and horse power is top end speed.
