Im in the prosess of rebuilding a 97 vmax 600. Split the case. This is what I found. The coating of the case, where the bearings sit, has stuck to the bearings. This only happened at a few locations. See the pictures. Has anyone seen this before? Why? Do I need new case and bearings?

yes that is quite common, bearing chatter. Last one i rebuilt I put some punch marks in the aluminum to make it squeeze the bearing race tighter, been about 1,500 miles with no problems.
When I had 540 Vmaxs[mid 80s], this was very common except worse.
I tried green locktite back then with No success in stopping the bearing chatter.
I ended up doing exactly what ottawair did...I lightly peened, [kind of like knurling the surface], the case bearing surface with a centre punch and never had any problems with them as long as I kept them.
Worked for me!

I had marks like this in my dads 600 cases and the guy that does my bearing and machine work told me to look for worn clutch parts. When I checked the clutch I found bad rollers.
