Well I grenaded my primary clutch about three weeks ago, had a shock that a new aftermarket one would cost about $600, so i looked around and found one that was off a 01 Venture and I put it on. I had to use my original short cover to be able to use my spring but it worked well except for the nasty high revving from the wrong clutch weights. I bought some slightly used 8CA weights off kijiji and put them in. The guy I bought em off of used them for drag racing his SRX, so I don't know what rivets were in them but I thought I would try em as is and see how they performed. Today was my first real ride as our snow has been marginal at best, but holy smokes is my old girl running strong and fast! it engages a little high at about 4000, but it takes off like a shot and doesn't overrev one little bit. I can hold 120km/h at about 1/3 throttle and 6250 rpm's and it just wants to go faster. I also roughened up the sheaves of both my primary and secondary and that was a very noticable improvement, no delay at all it just grips and rips. So the lesson I learned in all this is to ensure my clutches are working the best they can cause it totally changes the way it performs and feels in the seat of your pants. I cannot keep the track hooked up, so I guess i will have to install some more studs, the 96 just will not hold it. Silly me bought a set of GYT twins and I should have them this week, but this will only add to my traction issues. Bottom line if you feel your sled is sluggish and crappy, give your clutches a good going over and ensure they are working well. I was ready to sell this thing as I wanted something with more jam but all it needed was a little TLC and I love it again no need to go buying something else. Turns out that my primary clutch letting go was the best thing to happen to my sled all year.

I'm sure that I could get you parts for a little cheaper. They gave me 25 percent on my belts
The majority of yamaha's use the same puller, so if you have one for an SRX or similar it will work.bluemonster1 said:Blue #2 ..do you have a clutch puller, don't know if mine will work with your clutch..someone chime in on this!!!!
I found the pipes on kijiji in Barrie, Ont. I got em for $150 plus shipping. Its the fourth set I've found this year actually. I know there is a set in Toronto with Boyesen reeds for $300, look to be in excellent shape too. Its a totally different sled now that my clutches are working good and I'm super stoked for my pipes.Bluemonster2 said:Thats good to hear, I just bought a 95 vmax 600 and im gonna be going through the clutches this week.
