i m new to the site, but not new to yamaha s, it s the only sleds worth haven. my buddy has the sx and i have the srx. we have been trail rideing them this year and found in one day of rideing, he is useing 5 leters more gas than i am as well as twice the oil. Any good reason for this? his plug s look black not a nice tan like mine, and it doesent sound crisp down low like my srx, it s only when you get it up in rpm that it sound s right. he has had the sled for a few years and never had a problem, it s just now that we have been rideing ths same distance, both gased up and oil full that we found he was useing alot more with less performance. any thoughts. thanks

His sled must be very rich, sled are usually fat from the factory, so if he has never checked what main's he's running or where the jet needle clip is then that would explain the poor peformance and large fuel consumpion.

way to many variables. Clutching could also be off. drive belt worn, jetting obviously too. I run a SXR which is a red head 700 and I always use less fuel than my son's Viper or even my wifes 600 SX tripple. Al

like said above lots determine fuel use, jetting, clutching track deflection and so on.

first i would look at jetting, run the sled through each circuit(low, mid, top) kill the motor and check plug color, post pics if needed, find out what he has for jetting vs stock whats float hight etc, then we can go from there. stock sled?

oil pump we can fix that too, setting pump

get us something more to go on.

i just got back last week from a 155 mile trip up north with my sxr and got 13 mpg with it.
