has anyone powder coated their stock pipes? and taken the packing and cover off them? any weight saving?
Stock SRX pipes are a beautiful thing. I wouldn't mess with them. But I have heard of people doing that (Ceramic Coating). I wouldn't think there would be a noticeable difference in weight.
You have to ceramic coat pipes......

I just had the entire exhaust system on my 2000 SRX ceramic coated. After 10 years of use, the manifolds, pipes and Bender can were looking a bit old and rough. I found a very experienced and reputable coating outfit and had him strip and ceramic coat everything. NOT cheap, about $500 for the entire system. The system came out great, looks much better than new. I put the stock insulation and aluminum covers back on after polishing the covers. Although the ceramic coating helps to insulate the system, the stock covers do a much better job. For the system to work properly, it mut be kept hot, if the pipes run cooler than designed (by removing the covers) the tuning is changed. The weight saved by removing the aluminum covers and insulation is maybe 2 lbs.
BEWARE of using just anyone who says they can coat your exhaust system. There are a wide variety of coatings made that can be used on exhaust systems but most powder coaters will not be able to produce a durable long lasting coating. I learned thsi from experience. I had my exhaust system coated with an aluminum ceramic process. High temp. coatings are the result of a complete process, not just the powder.
