My nephew has a 98 600 SRX with about 1500 miles and a bad stator. It runs good up to 6000 rpms, and then cuts out, He's says that a screw fell inside and chewed up the stator. He's the second owner, he bought it from his brother-in-law for his wife to ride. He said she's not into it enough for it to be worth fixing it, so he wanted to know if I want it. I'm interested, I haven't seen the sled in a couple years, but he said it was in real nice shape, I trust him...
What do you think, is it worth $800 with a bad stator?

Guess that is up to you, but if it was really clean I wouldn't be afraid of it. What's a stator for one of those cost? $250ish? Easy job to swap at home, so if for $1100 you could have a new new to you ride.
Yes, and he's family. Give him the money.
Could it have messed up the flywheel too and not just the stator?

I'm thinking about doing it. I just need to have my thoughts down, to convince the other half, that this is a good deal. If you know what I mean. As far as the flywheel goes, I'm not sure, he didn't mention it.
buy it ...parts are cheap to fix i probally got them around

If it is truely in as good a shape he says it is, then yes buy it. Like others have said, a couple hundred bucks and some greasy hands and you got a rockin sled. Pitch it to the wife as an investment. You have it as an extra sled and if you want to you can sell it.....To me for 1k

id buy it
I wouldn't hesitate at all. Whats an SRX 600 going for anymore? $1600?
I paid $1500 for my 99 600 like 4 years ago. Sadly I've dumped way more than that into it (front and rear suspension, motor, controls, track, etc...), but it works real well for how I ride now. They are a great little sled/motor.
Lots of different options, you could bolt a $750 700 engine in there and have $1500 into an SRX 700, then sell the 600 motor for $400 and have a total investment of $1100 into an SRX 700..... For $800 you really can't go wrong if it's in decent shape. If you don't want it I'll take it, lol...
