Well, try and figure this one out. My brother in law has an SRX and under power if has a bad vibration that you can feel through the entire sled. The more your on the throttle the worse it gets. Also, its worse in deep snow. Also noticed some rings or marks on the clutch surface that are wore in. Belts wear quickly and clutches get hot. We had both clutches off and no problems there. Checked alignment offset and center to center, no problems there. Then proceeded to check all drive line bearings. Found nothing there. Track spins freely. The problem started not long after he blew a belt. When the belt blew on his sled it must have really went bad because it broke something in his recoil and blew his exhaust donuts out. Put on a new belt and worked fine for 50 miles or so then the problem started. I'm hoping its not a crank issue like the crank is out of phasze or something because of the belt breaking. Thoughts???
His SRX isn't a 98 is it? As far as I know the 98s were the only ones with crank issues and a small vibration was one of the clues. Its hard to believe that it would just "start" vibrating like that from crank issues though. If you want to quickly see if it's clutching, pull the clutches off yours and bolt them on his to see if the vibration goes away.

check the motor mounts? like mentioned try the clutches on your sled, while the clutches are off his i would borrow or rent a dail indicator and check the run off at the end of his crank. this way you will be sure it's not the clutches or the engine.

Yeah, good idea. We'll swap clutches tonight and see if that helps. His sled is an 01 so no crank issues. Checked motor mounts and they are fine.

i would still check the run off to make sure it is not the crank that is bent after you checked out the clutches. if that belt blew apart as bad as your saying then there's a good chance that it might have bent the end of the crank.
change_up said:Look at the clutch bushings... I've had two high mileage clutches blow cap bushings, the rollers went and then the weights started gliding across the roller surface instead of both parts rolling on eachother... this caused a bad vibration under power and cost a lot to fix.
What are "cap bushings"? How can you tell if they are gone?
Wow, I see what you mean. Thanks for the great pics!

cool pics!!! Not so cool weights.Them weights are really a hard material, wander how it can wear so easily anyways...
Checked everything out, and found not problems. Put both clutches back on and chaincase. Tried it out and everything is perfect. We have no idea what it was. Could the clutch actually move slightly on the crank and end up 'out of balance'? Thats all we can think off. Removing it and putting it back on squared things up again.
