Has anybody ever experienced broken motor mount bolts on the PTO side? Both bolts on the front side snapped the heads off and the rear bolt below carbs fell out. One of the front bolts is broken off in the case. Tried to use easyout but it will not move. The other turned out with my fingers.
Motor was moving so much the primary and the secondary clutch sheeves were rubbing together. Bad enough I think I may need to replace the primary.

I had that on my sled when i first bought it, not that bad tho. Both front mounting bolts to the case were broke, i got lucky and turned them both out by hand. Bummer on the primary, check the classifieds, there might be one on there for a dec. price.

make sure you get a torque limiter for that.had the same problem with my 03 viper. installed the torque limiter and never had it happen again. m2c
Where does the torque limiter mount? Do you know of anybody that sells one?

check this microfiche (http://www.ronnies.com/micro.htm) for any 98-01 SRX under brackets and it shows exactly where it mounts. part #'s 15 to #22. it sits right behind the primary just inside the frame extension. the other end is mounted to the motor right underneath the #1 carb (PTO). you can either purchase a new one or just try some recycling yards and you should be able to find a complete one for around $20-40. seen some on ebay last week and you can check in the classified here as well. i'm sure someone has one they are not needing. ![Thumbs Up ;)! ;)!](https://totallyamaha.net/images/smilies/div20.gif)

i also had the same problem no shearing but my bolts would come loose some red locktite solved that problem torque limiter sounds like a good idea.
Not that I like to admitt this but I had to modify the motor mount and use lower holes that were for a starter. One bolt came out easy with my fingers. The second bolt would not move. I drilled it out and tried using an Easyout, but the damn thing broke off in the hole. That screwed me as I could not get the broken half of the easyout out.
I will be adding the torque limiter.

the other bolt might have loctite on it try to give it a little heat with a propane torch then try your easyout. I think mine is having issues with the mounts also. Im chewing up belts and the performance isnt there like it was. My sled needs completely gone over.

If you don't have electric start you can use the 3-bolt PTO motor mount from the SRX. I added both the 3-bolt motor mount and the Yamaha torque limiter to mine.
Hey sgauthier, and pics of where/ how you install this one? I'm assuming it replaces the clutch side motor mount?
This is an awesome idea, and I've broken too many mounts on the Mt Viper soo far and it's getting old!
Thx man!

3 Things to do
If you own a Viper there are 3 things that should be done before you even ride it.
1. Install SRX type "dog bone" motor stop
2. Install SRX 3 hole front lower motor mount
3. Install SRX rear heat exchanger
Just my opinion....will save a lot of headache.

Mine came with a rear heat exchanger and over heating isn't a problem.
I'll now have the torque limiter and dog bone motor mount. What is this 3 hole front lower motor mount??????
Thx,
Mike
3 hole SRX mount
It is a 3 hole front motor mount that came on the SRX. Mounts to the case with three bolts instead of two and prevents this problem.

You just cant use that 3 bolt mount if you have e start. Im running e starts so im just using the torque limiter. Anythings better than what ive had up till now which is nothing. CCC

If you install the SRX "dog bone" torque bar, make sure you loctite the bolt behind the secondary.Mine came loose, backed out and when I pinned it on the fireguard the head of the bolt jumped over the outer edge on the inner sheave of the secondary and chewed the crap out of it.Needed new sheave.I'm assuming the Viper is a similar layout to the SRX.
