Building a motor for my 79 srx. The bottom end has one those trail kits on it. Will this rob power? Building the sled for running short drags on the lake. Thanks.

For short drags you don't want it on there. It was indeed to make the clutch and crank last longer but you don't want the added weight and don't have to worry about your crank for short drags. I would leave it off.
yeah those are mostly safety features for a two stroke running at throttle for extended periods of time, in the case of a drag race the motor should hold at wot for that very short period of time without the kit just fine, my buddys ice racer doesnt even have its cooling system they have a little dolly with the sleds system on it and they pump coolant through it after runs goes to show you in those short burst you can pretty much remove anything that doesnt help you go straight faster
what is this trail kit you talk of...
i think he means additional weight on flywheel.

It's like a harmonic balancer that is bolted on the crank shaft behind the gear that drives the water pump. Just trying to avoid extra weight.
