Aftermarket ski runners - any improvement?

Do not buy Woodies or Roetin? These two companies have all the market share and are sold everywhere. They spend the most on marketing but are not a great product. Any sled rental operator would recommend http://www.bergstromskegs.com/. The carbide inserts are the same for all the manufacturers as the host bar material is the real secret to a superior product. Bergstrom uses a very strong bar material.

I'm not arguing and can't comment on comparisions, but I have never had a bad experience with Woodys' studs or carbides. I've never worn my carbides down to the host bar but have gone multiple seasons. Over 7k miles on my XCR and I still have the same 8" Woodys on my '01 SRX I installed when new. Agreed that carbide is carbide and perhaps the Bergstom's host bar is superior but IMO if you wait 'til you're into the host bar you've waited too long.

My riding buddies are all last minute. They buy whatever is presented at the dealer on that given day. I see there results compared to mine and know first hand the difference. Keep in mind I do not work for Bergstrom or any other snowmobile affiliated company. Just sharing my experiences.

The ski resorts fleets and rental fleets know the value of good product. This is how I learned of Bergstrom. I friend of mine worked at a ski resort.

Here is some testimonial stuff from the site for those who care:

This is what I am going to use when I replace mine...... ;)!

6" or 8" or dually? I ride fast and don't have any problems with darting. Just hoping to turn a little better.
Thanks,
Ed

Sales person from woody's said the same...dually are for straight. Vipers are for turning great....so single 8" I guess.

I went 6" Studboy shaper bar and it made a huge difference on my Nytro.
Before the bars, I was definitely faster through the tight and twisties on my Viper, but with the Shaper bars on my Nytro XTX, its a different ball game.

Really? 9 years? I only get about 600 miles a year and I change mine every 2 years. I do no Ditch banging and only cross roads when he have too. I like 8 inch. Had a lot of ice the last couple of years.

i run 6" bergstrom triple points on my 00 srx 700. they are the best turning runner ive ever used.

I know this is slightly off but I replaced my skis with SLP Powder Pro ski's, shows barely any wear after this whole season, and the improvement in keeping the heavy SRX front end up above the snow is VERY much better. Difinately worth considering guys, and they look rad!

I have used Woodys 8" since day one, than tried the Studboy shaper bars, they made a big difference. May try the Studboy dual runners next year.

Yes, 9 years but since the birth of junior I haven't riden like I used to so the age probably isn't a good indicator. Still, I think I turned 4k miles on it a few weeks ago and the bars are still in good shape. My buddy that racks up over 6k a year rotates his skis once or twice a year depending on the amount of road riding he does. He's got over 11k on the Woody's duelies on his Doo (swapped when new) and still using the same OEM slides!

...and to Mac's point about Bergstrom's; I know I can sometimes get a bit lazy or comfortable and just continue with what works but maybe the next time I need new ones I'll look closer at them.

Mac is right, Bergstrom are the best I have run them on different machines over the years and they hold up well. There triple points are awsome, but initially expensive though still worth it.

i used cb performances carbides this year and they are great, the thing handles better than it ever has and they are pretty durable and priced riight

Had Woodies Dually on my SRX when I bought it. No darting whatsoever, carbides still in good shape but the snow tends to pack in between the carbides then it doesn't turn good. On a straight line under some conditions I was able to turn the steering left and right quickly and the sled still went straight. Also when I removed them some of the bolts at the base was half way rusted through. Not much left holding them. You couldn't tell when their where on.

Got the Studboy Deuce bar from the Yamaha dealer. Got them for the Apex since they don't make them for SRX anymore. Got a guy to grind and soldier the bolts at right placement for the SRX for 30$.

Not allot of snow compared to last year so hard to compare. Plus I mistakenly got 4" instead of the 6" I had (I'm not studded so I think I'll be fine.) One thing I can compare is on bare ice, these deuce turn like skates! Much better then before.

I have 6" Woody dually's on my 02 Viper and I have almost no darting, but it tend to push in tight corners. Maybe it's the carbides, or maybe I don't have the rear skid dialed in for my weight and riding style.
