How much movement should a skid have

Ok I will try and ask what I am seeing when I go outside. Now I have the skid arse of the sled up, I checked all the bolts, nuts etc, I tightened the rear guide wheels a few turns, but that still have some movement from side to side, but not sure if that is just the rubber/plastic moving, as when I have it up off the ground and the track spinning, I do not see in wobble, or it is very slight.

NOw onto the skid itself, the two torsion bars, I think I have the right name, forgive me for not knowing the proper name of this skid with way to many parts, lol. these are the adjustable ones, now at the top they are loose, but not as in worn loose, just you can move them slightly, this may be the way they should be with no tension or torsion for a proper word on them since the sled is up. That is one of the questions.

Another is the entire SKID, if you were to grab it while off the ground, track on etc. should it have some play to it, or should it be solid? with no movement from side to side.

Reason I am asking all this is I am going to be extending this 121 Proaction skid to a 136, And I would like to know if this skid is pooched, if so I may just get a different skid then try and repair this one.

BTW, does a VIPER skid fit into these sleds with no modifications? Sled of course in question is a 98 VM SX 700

Thank you again

Dont even mess w/ a viper skid...if your swapping to a longer track you will be drilling new holes anyway so you might as well put something worth while under it. I put a polaris pro x skid under mine and its a night and day difference now in the trails and how it transfers weight. I also put viper shocks in the front...world of difference, plus I gained about 6 inches of travel.

You can just put the shocks from a viper in your skid if your looking for the extra height. You also have to put the viper limiter straps and skinnier transfer rod shims on it.

im with you ,why put in another junk yammy skid?they never made a decent skid up until recently ,everybody else was way ahead of yammy on skids !i have a 94 vmax 600 which i hated with a passion until i put in a xcr 800 skid ,now i love it!

jeff is your sx700 still for sale, just wandering. My nephew wants to find a good used sled.He has ordered all his gear in red,so I figure a red sled is up his alley.

I'd sell it , only thing is I am sure you can get them cheaper in the US then in Canada, and I wouldn't be asking american prices, I would be asking what they are selling for here, but less a few hundred. ( PM me with an offer )

As for the skid, I would love to put another skid in, but I am just putting in the extensions, cheapo way and a new track.

Sorry Doug, sold it before Christmas. Replaced it with a Vmax 500 for my son and wife to ride. With all that I did to the 700 it was just too fast for my son.

Extend the sid and tunnel. Pick up some Viper shocks and have the revalved.
Best and cheapest mod for your sx.

there was a fellow with the extension from a RX, but he was unsure if it fits on our P Action skids plus it was to go from a 136-151. I had asked him to cross reference with Hartman, as I beleive that is who makes it. But have not heard back. I really want to get the extension that you still have a slider to the back and not one that doesn't. Or is this really a big issue? I just see a lot of pressure on the rear wheel, especially if I land on the back end a lot. I also tried getting a hold of Rich, his site says he still sells all this stuff, but no reply, tried calling and nothing???

Please point idiot Yammy driver in right direction lol please. :P

Going w/ a longer track may end up costing a lot more once you put the tunnel extension and extra cooler on for the added length in track. I looked into the same thing before doing the skid swap. It was a lot of work and more money. I just went with a pro x 121 skid and a 1" track off a polaris with 96 studs down the center. That setup is awesome and only cost me 300 bucks total.

Make sure to add the cooler though if you extend the track...the SXs love to overheat having the coolers under your feet instead of the tunnel.

Already has the cooler on it now. Kit if I buy it new, which is using take off MM parts as in the longer hoses for the rear cooler and the tunnel extension which they make, but I am told you have to kinda fiddle with a good fit. And the Skid ext is brand new, Total is $325, then if I buy that I can get a new track, 136 X 1.25 for $300 more, so total $625 plus shipping.

Also riding in POW all the time, even the regular coolers under my feet do not get very hot at all and I have an actual temp gauge on it as I never trust an idiot light lol

I do not want a 121 skid, I ride in hills and such and we get a lot of powder, I am tired of being stuck lol.

Not after speed at all here and it right now has a 1.25 on it, but short track just wants to dig in of course.

Only thing I dislike about this kit is the skid extensions, they are not the ones I want. But I found two take off MM Rails and may to it that way, no weak point then.

I see, yea powder you will benefit from a longer track. I thought you were looking for a good all around set up. I agree though, I would definitely go for the mountain max rails/ or other brand skid that is already 136". You will have to get the measurements from the doner sled though and drill new holes for it. Not a tough job though...even if you have to move your reinforcement plates. I know of a guy locally that has a nice MM skid if you cant find one near you (I traded it to him for the pro-x skid). Good Luck.

If using the mmax skid rails I think you'll need the entire skid. The transfer rods and rear skid assembly are diferent than a 121.They also use diff mounting points which means either you build or by extra reinforcing brackets.
I Got the extra piece that extends the hyfax. Have put on over 1000 miles this year. The last 250 thru some beat up trails and some hard landings. There is no sign of stress in any of the parts that I have installed.
