well finally got the pistons to fix it and went to split the cases to clean the crank and cases out and found out the cases are junk. there is a chunk missing from the top of the case where i photographed earlier and there is scrape marks around the center part of the case and the bottom half of the crank case is gouged/smashed to the point where i can see cracks from the outside of the case. here's where it gets interesting i figured the rod bearing went out and gouged the case all up, well that was wrong i can find absolutely nothing wrong with the crank or any of the bearings on it, so now i'm puzzled, what would cause there to be a broken piece of the top half of the case, gouges all the way around the center section of case and a crack/blunt force gouge in the bottom of the case if the crank is entirely fine? i know the piston fragments and piece of broken case could have cause the gouges but what caused the crack/gouge in the bottom, the bottom almost looks like it was hit with a hammer in the one spot, i'm sure this would be easier with pics so i'll try to get those tomorrow but does anyone have any ideas what caused this? also could the piston fragments have caused the top section of case to break? the top section of case was very beat up and the bottom of the piston was all broken, it almost looks like the bottom of the piston was coming into contact with the top half of the case, could that even happen somehow?

are you the original owner of this sled/motor ? Sounds to me this engine was repaired before by the previous owner. Bad rod

There isn't much room between the case (top and bottom) and the crank weights so if anything gets in between them something has to give... usually the case.
