This is a first for me new blue yamaha hyfax and now shot after 350 miles of riding. this has been the best year for snow for us I have 4 days of riding on they hyfax 1 day hard packed snow covered trails 1 day we were dumped on so all powder ditch riding a day of groomed trails and another day od 3" fresh snow on the trail.

any ideas the track if anything may be on the loose side i had installed the hyfax and new bearings in the idler wheels 300 miles ago.

Yamaha sleds need snow, period,,,,,if ran at any low snow conditions no matter how slight or shortly ran on you will have this issue, they burn down to a certain spot then stop.

you gotta stay in snow with a yammie,i put on new graphite this year and the same issue they burnt then stopped.

Exactly how mine went this year, were brand new and wore in one spot really a lot and then stopped. ( I hope ) I could actually smell them one day as we were riding in sub par conditions and excessive speeds. In the POW, no issues, except my 121 skid getting stuck lol.

we have tons of snow and they are wore everywhere there is not a wheel. they look like a roller coaster and the track clips have melted hyfax on them again were have a exceptional winter with twice the snow as normal. my firecat went 4000 miles in worse conditions.

again 3 rides on the sled and where ever there is a idler wheel the wear bar is real good but where there is not it is at the wear line so it varies 1/8

limit straps are ate 1.00 exposed thread track was on the loose side, 144 studs in the sled.

Yes thats what they look like when they wear, like a roller coaster, but again hate to say but at one point in time somewhere some time that sled was ran in low snow /hard packed conditions,IF ran in good conditions/pow snow and deflection is correct they will not melt.

you can test this, hammer down hard packed or ice till you feel drag then dart into a drift/ pow the sled will immediately free up and roll better.

I just went through this with my graphites, they have since stopped wearing now.

Like i said the snow has been great and and the closest to low snow would be hard pack snow. mt cat show no wear these are gone. if thats the case i am gonna buy another cat.

heres some pics with 300 miles on them

Hard pack WILL do it if theres not enough snow dust combined with high speeds,,,that was the issue with Yamaha skids too much arch at the font of the rails thus applying more force in that one area.

those don't look bad at all, take a 10mm wench and try to place it over the side of the hyfax,it wont fit i can tell by looking at your pics telling you you have plenty of material Left, once your at that wear line you still have lots of material left, don't get nervous, them slides will last a long time yet, stay in the snow and keep speeds down when on hard pack it's that simple.

have fun with your kitty you'll have more issues then just a little hyfax wear, good luck.

my hyfax still good on my SXR for 3 seasons now.Just put new graphite sliders on the SRX 3 weeks ago, added ice scratchers and there is no wear going on,no waves like the old ones. The scratchers and marginal wheels up front made the difference. When I ride, the snow from the srcatchers create a mini blizzard under the tunnel. When you ride beside the sled..you cannot see the skid at all..total whiteout and if you follow behind you get shot of snow and ice flying back against your sled and body...cool stuff man.

I see your studs are very close, by any chance do the tops go under, remember the track does moves around a lot.

But like the above said, you have a lot of life left in those, I wish I had that much lol.

just took a wrench to them a 12mm fits in a few places. the ones i took off were at 15mm at the thinnest point and were totally even. reason i took them off was the melted plastic on the track clips. . I am going to try black ones and see if that helps white and black tend to last longer over colored ones . something to due with the pigments.

as for the kittys. i have had some good luck and some bad . but 8,ooo on my old 02 zr 600efi and 5000 on my F6. and never had a wrench to them.

the studs dont get that close to the guides

ya i had the same prob this past weekend. I actually melted them to my track. The snow conditions are terrible this year. Might invest in a set of scratchers tho. hope that fixes the prob.

Rough track clips will beat up high fax VERY quickly, i would definetly look them all over it might just be 1 or 2 that are high or sharp and digging in a little.

I will look them all over, just odd that the old hyfax were evenly wore and in better shape. there was better than 1/8 below the wear line. these after 300 miles are right to the wear line. I did adjust the springs to the middle settings there were backed off pretty soft or out of spec from what the owners manual stated. i dont know how many miles are on the old ones as i bought this a month ago.

Mine looked just like yours (all wavey) with under a 100 miles, no reall high speeds, and a 50/50 mix of on off tail. Pisses me off too.

I also have had real good luck with Cat and Yamahas.

On my yamaha sleds that I have owned they all seem to wear the first part of the slide early, but after that the wearing stops. I have put a couple thousand miles on them before.
