hey yall my dads runnin a stock 02 viper with 5k on it. all regular maintenance done. but to the point the temp light comes on sometimes an stays on an also comes on then goes out an so on..any ideas on this guys or have anyone occured this? where should we start? we are thinking the sensor could be bad. also my brother has an o2 vip and the temp light never comes on in that

Try a search on this, it has been covered several times, you will find all the info you need. Vipers were/are prone to over heating issues. Has your brother added a rear heat exchanger?

x2, prone to over heating unless a rear heat exchanger is added. Check the sensor, but i would look at the rear exchanger even if the sensor is bad.

first question I have to ask is what are your current riding conditions. if the light comes on and then goes off the sensor is not broken. If you are riding on marginal snow this is typical. If there is colder temps with good snow cover you shouldn't overheat.

no my brother has not added a rear heat exchanger on his. i bought one for my dads to try out...the conditions were plenty of snow but the trails were hard packed..we tested the resistance values of the sensor also an that was in specs

I had the light come on for me last year running it on hard icy trails. I had to stop about every five miles and pack my footboards with snow to keep it cool. I don't have a rear heat exchanger on mine but will be adding one this off season. Your problem is probably the same as mine, lack of snow and no rear cooler.
