My brother in law has a 91 exciter 2, I took it for a ride tonight and when you hit the breaks the lights go dim and almost out. Also when I switched to the low beams they went even dimmer. It is both the headlight and the dash lights. Just wondering where I should start looking to resolve this issue. Thanks

You very well could have a short to ground with a bare wire under the seat going to tail light.
F.Y.I. a Red LED tail light bulb will keep your head light bright when braking.

You may need to clean the rust off of the stator.
My 97 Venture's headlight dimmed pretty badly and made little to no heat from the passenger handwarmers. I swapped the regukar incandescent bulb to a LED one and it made the headlights not dim under braking, as well as have more heat from the back handgrips. The led bulb did help, but it still has dim dash lights and could get brighter headlights, but it did help.
I know others have had to clean off the stators and that is the real culprit. I am planning on cleaning mine off this fall.
