putting SRX engine in a 1999 sx chassie

Can be done as the chassis' are the same design But you will lose the benefits of the triple pipes as this is where the power is made. You could transplane the motor and ALL of hte electronics and find a set of triple pipes from either bender or Hauck (Simons CPR) and you should be fine, of course you'll need to rejet the carbs for the differnet pipes. Hauck Powresports used to produce a sled called a SX-RX which was a sx chassis with a SRX motor installed with above mentioned mods.

will the hood fit over the pipes?
seems to me the belly pan & hood was made larger to fit the triple pipes

I have never seen one of those! Didn't know they existed, that would be a unique sled to own...some real sleeper potential there!

my guess is it will work, the front cast section shoud be removed and the heat exchanger is a little different on the inlet, could probly be rerouted under the motor to work. I have a cast front section from a viper that would make the motor and front shocks bolt in as well as widening your front end about 1in. You will need to install the srx exhaust mount on the side of the frame and in back of the muffler, you will need a bent stearing post.
