Unusual Problem - 99 600 Triple

This problem is with a 99 600 Vmax Triple

Last season the bearing went in the R/R rear idler wheel and the track tensioner bolt hit and bent a track clip. We replaced the idlers, tension bolt and straightened the track clip. Then at the end of the season the outside edge of a track clip bent up and chewed up the hyfax and slide rail. It was the clip that had been bent and we figured it was due to the previous damage to the clip. We replaced the hyfax, right rail and removed the damaged clip.

Then this year the outside edge of a left track clip bent up and chewed up the hyfax and rail. We replaced the hyfax, slide rail, and removed the damaged clip. This was on the opposite side of the sled to the original damage. The track was given a very thorough check and no damaged clips were found.

On the second ride this year another clip bent up on the left side and chewed up the hyfax and rail. I've never had a problem like this before and I don't know what is causing it.

The sled has a 1" Camoplast Predator, fully clipped, with about 1k on it. When I bring it in the garage I will take a photograph of the clip, it's just the very outside edge where the hyfax rides is bending up at about 90 degrees. Has anyone ever had anything like this happen? Now I'm fresh out of rails and I'm thinking of replacing the track also.
 
Seems like you have some bad track clips on your track . Contact Camoplast or your dealer and see what kind of warranty the track has . It should last alot longer than 1k . My buddy has the same track on his Apex. With over 5k miles on it. Now it is starting to lose clips.
 
I'll send them an email and see what they say. I find it strange too,, especially considering that it happended 3 times.
 
What do the actual driver and idler wheels look like. It looks like something is grabbing and peeling the clips out. The only things that can come into contact with them is the drivers, idlers, or rails. Look at everything close...there has to be something. It could be something like a bent shaft on the idlers or even a bent drive shaft.

Here's what Camoplast had to say:

Usually that can happen, when clip it is used and over heat due to hi-fax. Picture show residue on clip edge, that is a sign of hi-fax heating. The hi-fax particle goes between clip and rubber and lift the clip tab, when it is coming to high that hook suspension component and fold like picture shown.

The first time it happended we pulled the suspension and gave it a complete going over, new rail, hyfax, idler bearings, shock bushings, etc.

The drivers look good and I didn't check the drive shaft for bends but there isn't any vibration. What makes it really strange is that it has happended 3 times and on both sides of the sled.

I don't believe that it is being caused by a hyfax particle going between the clip and the rubber.
 
I always have hyfax residue on the clips when the hyfax is new.Normal. I really can't see particles accumulating that much to bend the clip that far. Thats just strange.
 
Your skid bushings may be worn allowing whole skid-slide rails to move side to side or even cocked front to right, back to left, -- not running straight along clip guides.. make sure track is not to loose....
 
I used to have same problem on a phazer in the old days,,, sled was so light I could throw it around in the corners with ease,,,, If terrain is hard it will bend the clips like that by forces ( rocks hard snow) hitting on edge of track... They lasted a lot longer with someone else driving,, thats for sure.....
 
from what im seeing something is out of alignment, the wear pattern on the clips if you look real close are on a angle, narrow in front wide in back(the colored lines residue?) also drive lugs are worn more on one side in the 2-3 row

Prior to each incident where the clips bent, the track was aligned and tensioned to Yamaha spec. I do see what you are referring to but I suspect that is from the bent clip causing the track to run out of alignment.
