asking for stepson here. His front pogo's really don't seem to be working to par.You can push down on one and it goes a little and doesn't reall spring back. The other one we cannot really push dow.It is no wander he is finding it rough to run higher speeds in the bumps.I can alway see his headlight flickering like crazy from a didtance.I think if you look at the videos from last weekend where we raced the 6500's..you can see what I mean. What is the solution here. Are them shocks basically hooped or can they be adjusted or have to be rebuilt???
Oh yeah this is on the 95 v-max600 by the way...

alot of times the sciccors freeze up on the front and won't let it travel. i rebuilt the motor on one for a buddy 2 years ago and i took his completly apart and freed it up. I had to use an impact to get the bolts to spin and come out. Polished them all up and never seized them, and he said it rode better than it ever had. Maxdlx

My 94 vmax 600 has the same issue as described regarding the pogos. Is that issue primarily isolated to the scissors and nothing inside the pogo itself? That would be nice to simply clean them up and not have to worry about too much disassembly.

I was thinking about those damn scissors..who invented that crap..lol
I'm sorry but the pogo's just give a terrible ride, my exciter was bad and so is my VMAX. Sounds stupid but I love the look of the sled so I put up with a mediocre ride. Taking apart the scizzors is something I will do also to try and free up the system a little more. I just ride slower through the washboard and stand up.

I took the one side apart that didn't show movement. It was fused or anything, but now I get movement in that shock..shouild help slightly now that both are moving.
When I was looking at sleds to buy I looked at one where the pogo's didn't move at all. The castings were splitting on the scizzors because of being seized. With all the moving parts they should be serviced like you would a skid at the beginning of the season. JMO
Sometimes if they are over tightened they will be froze up to. try some silicone spray on all the joints and grease it with low temp grease. Maxdlx
Royal distributing also sells a shim kit for these sleds to tighten up the slop that eventually comes with the wearing of the factory shims. This helps a ton with the vague steering issue that i had.

was thinking that maybe don,t tighten the bolts to tight. The connections are tight as is with his shims, any more tightening from the bolts may make it worse.Iguess one shpild tighten the nut just up to the side and stop..don't tighten it like making it as one piece when overtight and then the movement become limited.May go back later and back the nuts off.
Yep thats the way to do it, besides thats why the make nyloc nuts.bluemonster1 said:was thinking that maybe don,t tighten the bolts to tight. The connections are tight as is with his shims, any more tightening from the bolts may make it worse.Iguess one shpild tighten the nut just up to the side and stop..don't tighten it like making it as one piece when overtight and then the movement become limited.May go back later and back the nuts off.

the rhs pogo seems to be the good one,the left side one, even after I took apart the scissor, removed and cleaned/lubed bushings and put back....seems to still be hard to push dow.It makes a sound like something is binding.I am now thinking something was bent from a hard hit or something..throwing the piston sleeve off align..maybe slightly bent...

one more ?? if you take the top rubber caps off..it exposes 2 nuts on a threaded bolt kinda deal. What is that, can you thightn the nuts down to change how shock works..ie)softer setting...

As far as i know, and im not sure here. The 96xt which i have is the only one with adjustable front shocks. It is a clicker set up. Seems to work pretty good. I bet you could even find a set to put on his 95.
That sounds like a sweet idea!super1c said:As far as i know, and im not sure here. The 96xt which i have is the only one with adjustable front shocks. It is a clicker set up. Seems to work pretty good. I bet you could even find a set to put on his 95.

can you get some pics of them shocks so we could see what you mean. You are saying they look like the pogo style with adjustment....

Its 1:30 in the am now but ill take a shot for ya in the morning. If you look up a 96 xt proaction plus on babbitsonline.com under oem you will see its a pogo style. It just has a adjuster (part #28 under ski in look up) for spring preload to make the front harder or softer. I know my 13 yr daughter can ride it one day and i can adjust it for me to boondock on the next.

Im not sure what years in the 5 and 600's they came in but if the pogos are adjustable it will say when you take the boot off. The sled wont talk when you take the boots off, you wont hear "I'm adjustable" but there will be the words hard and soft on either side of the bolt. Now, all year vmax-4's had the adjustable type except '92, but as far as I know they are not as easy as bolting over from one to the other. I tried this once on my '94 vmax 500 and the mounts were quite a bit different, not an insurmountable problem but definitely an issue. I am quite certain that you can remove the shock from the inside of the canister and replace the offensive part, whether it be shock or canister causing the bind. How bad are the shock canisters? are they bent and dinged up bad? Is the front frame straight? Alot of times if a pogo is hit hard enough to ruin it, it will also tweak the frame. In my experience anyways. .

On every used T.S.S. sled I've bought the Knuckles and steel bushing are almost frozen or completely locked up and pivoting on the bolts ! I've bought sleds that the locked up joints won't even allow the springs to return let, alone the struts to work when hitting a bump. The T.S.S sleds have always gotten a bad rap for slop developing when the ungreased steel bushing's freeze up they grind away on the nylon washers ! I have sleds that are 15+ years old that have never had a bushing kit and are almost as tight as new. Just take the knuckles and the ski mounts apart every other year and grease !
The 94-96 Vmax 5-600cc sleds had 7.2” of travel although a inch or so was used up in set in or suspension sag (Bender made a kit to get back and use this lostTravel. I’ve been told the Vmax4 has a larger diameter strut. Yamaha had a T.S.S. GYT Kit that had adjustable damping along with adjustable preload. Yamaha part # SMA-8CA91-10-00
