I have been out of snowmobiling for years, and then bought an SRX. It's great fun and I'll have it for years to come.
And having been out of snowmobiling for sometime, I haven't followed the progression in performace. I am going to stick with Yamahas, so what would be the next machine that I should be looking at that takes the performance up a couple or three notches???
Any opinions would be appreciated. thanks.

If you are going to stick with Yamaha and want a higher level of performance then a SRX its going to cost you lot$ of $$$$.
A lightened up Turbo or Supercharged Apex or Nitro will get you a pretty good
HIGHER PERFORMING ride then the SRX but thats about it.

Nothing Yamaha makes now will compare to the SRX in performance... It depends on what type of riding you want to do. All new Yamahas are 4 strokes. I own 2 -4 strokes and an 01 SRX. I ride the 4 strokes on the trails and have the SRX for lake racing. Now, the SRX is jacked up a bit and is built for lake racing. The 4 strokes are very good dependable trail sleds. The Attak I have has almost 9000 miles on it and the more I ride it the more I am a believer in Yamaha 4 stroke technology! If you want a performance sled both will fit the bill its just that the SRX is old school Rock and Roll Baby!!!!

I am surprised
Like I said, I have been absent from snowmobiling for sometime now and it was just by chance more or less that I bought an SRX. Didn't really know what I was getting into.
so am I reading something like this: If you want more performance than an SRX, be ready to shell out big dollars?
Can someone give me an example or two of how many dollars buys what increased level of performance over an SRX?
thanks!

Keep the SRX and throw an edge suspension in the rear. ALL my buddies with newer sleds (no matter what make or model) are jealous every year, for quite a few in a row now, once they take mine for a HOT lap.

$5K - $7K will get you a turbo or supercharger on an Apex if you already have the sled.
There have been a few used ones listed in the last few months.
See the 4-stroke forum for more input.
NOS is a lot cheaper but won't yield near as much power.
You can get more power out of an SRX.

any one ever used NOS on an srx ?
Get a hold of cbperformance. They've done a lot of nitrous on the SRX's. Do a search and look for 2000srx.tofastSRX said:any one ever used NOS on an srx ?

why spend $7k on a turbo alone when you can buy a used srx, fix any bugs in it, get it ported, maybe a new suspension, clutch the shit out of it and be untouchable in the trails and definatly beat down on a lot bigger sleds on the lake, all for under $5k. IMO

It depends on what you want...how much performance...race with your buddys on the lake or all out kick butt! My 01 has your basic bolton stuff... clutch with power sheve, re-jetted, reeds, geared, and mild head mod from Hauck. Thats it and I have been running with 800 ZR Cats with all sorts of mods and handing them there tails in 660 ft. Now we are talking a 700 against mod 1000's. I'm standing in some pretty tall cotton right now!! I might have $1200 to $1500 bucks in this stock SRX. I need to also mention that I have 192 chissel studs that has a lot to do with it! So, everything said ...I have taken a stock 01 SRX and have done not a whole lot of Mods that cost a bunch of $$$ and have faired very well this year on the lake! And to look at my sled it looks like a bone stock 01 right on the show room floor.

OK, you guys sold me. I'll stick with the SRX!
Like I said originally, when I bought it I really didn't know what I had.
Thanks for the advise.
