Some people say 3000 mi. and others say 5000 mi. I have a little over 3000 on my 02 Viper and wondering if I should do the top end at the end of the season? I had a friend break a ring this past weekend and it made me think maybe it's not a bad idea. On the other hand he rides a MXZ so I probably should not compare sleds! LOL

I'd wait. I did mine at 14,000 miles. That might have been stretching it a bit but it still ran great. And you're right you can't compare a Yamaha to a Doo!

Do you happen to remember what your cylinder compression was when you decided to re-ring??? The last time mine was checked it was 125 psi 1, 2 and 3 with about 12000kms on the engine.

Did mine at 6000 miles just for the sake of it. Got 7500 and change on it at the moment. This is the first year I have had hiccups with my Viper.
1) broke the W arm in the skid
2) front/rear shock blew (after a rebuild)
3) cracked the w pipe manifold (welded it)
4) cracked the exhaust silencer (welded it)
5) all my reeds were shot (replaced them)
6) clutch bushings, etc. very worn (bought some spare clutches off TY)
I guess I have never owned the same sled this long. I guess this is why I used to trade every couple years but as many of us know, it's much more costly to trade alot than to fix what you got. The only bad thing is it can ruin a weekend or two of riding.
