I have an 02 viper with 15000kms, never touched the engine at all, had my first power valve cable pull through, my power valve has some damage, the bottom of the power valve has some coating missing. Does this happen to anyone else? The other valves are starting to do the same thing the coating on the bottom is coming off, only use solvent and a rezor blade to clean. Does this happen to others? Can the power vavle hit the piston and cause damage? I noticed I had a little loss of top end speed and a little power and found a pv pulled through.
From my experience, it is not uncommon for some of the coating on the valves to start to erode/wear away at the higher mileages.
The power valve has a boss or collar that prevents the valve from dropping down far enough to hit the piston. The only way the valve should be able to interfer with the piston is if the blade breaks off of the stem, then it can slide down to contact the piston...this happened to me last year...LOL!...ends the ride for that day!
I am learning that cleaning the valves every 1000 miles or so prevents pull throughs and other issues. and I am just in that process today, 1200 miles this year and they are showing some build up of carbon.

Hey Bob at 1200 miles, what oil are you using?
Myself I have had decent luck with the Ipone strawberry scented stuff. STill like you say, good to clean them once in a while that is for sure.

I am using Red Line this year...I run a lot of oil through my engine[average 40:1] as it does high mileage trips at high speed[lots of lakes] on a regular basis. Interestingly, the Mag + Pto valves had very little build up but the centre cylinder had a fair build up of carbon??? Valves all adjusted to the same spec.

Canadian Viper, I have a 2000 srx 700 and I just had my one of power valves pull through due to insufficant cable tension, theres a guy on here goes by YA*AM*A*HEAD Hes fixing two of my powervalves right now, his specialty is fixing powervalve pull throughs. Also Ive had very good luck with Amsoil intercepter and just running 93 octane gas for keepin the powervalves clean thats just me though good luck!!

As a rule no the pv cannot hit the piston there's stops in the cyl preventing the piston from going that far in,yes common for the coating to peel with mileage.
make sure pv's get adjusted when you replace.
