Rebuilding my 88 570 and have a problem with the new crank seal (pto) the oem seal has the lip that go'es in the crank case on the side with the brass on it facing in but the new one has the lip on other side. i called cometic and they don,t have a clue. another call to dennis kirk tech and they said just put it in with the brass sidr facing out.just doen't sound right to me. anyone seen this ? what should i do ? the one on the left is the oem.

put it in with the lip in the groove,I know it looks backwards, I just went thru the same thing a month ago,if you do put it in with the steel side out it will blow out. hope this helps.

Thanks ! but the only way the new one will fit is with the metel faceing out. look at the picture , old on the left and the new on the right and the metel both facing right but the lip on the new one is on the wrong side ?

yup.
install the seal in the crank case with the lip sitting in the groove of the crank case.

i have 2 bottom ends here from 89 exciters and both PTO seals are different. 1 has the metal showing and the other has the metal on the inside of the case.

aftermarket seals... or is your's from the dealer?

The seal came with a cometic gasket set. it just looks stange with the metel facing out. i just dont want any problems on a fresh rebuild over a seal so i just ordered another seal from yamaha. THANKS

mine gasket set was a windersa, and the seal was opposite compared to the stock yamaha one, just put the lip in the groove and you will be fine. kids rode ours last nigth for couple hours and runs good.
