Drive belt wear limit

The Yamaha SRX shop manual states that the width of a new drive belt is 34.5 mm with a wear limit of 32.5 mm. What is considered the practical wear limit, the practical wear limit being the minimum width which can be run without experiencing major performance degradation? I installed an external adjusted so I can keep the belt riding right at the top of the secondary clutch. Will the sled perform the same independent of the drive belt width as long as the secondary clutch is adjusted to keep the top of the belt riding flush with the outside of the secondary clutch?? Thanks!!
