I have heard so many horror stories about putting a triple pipe on Vipers. How can the SRX run pipes and be one of the more bulletproof sleds out there and a Viper become a timebomb when piped? There are tons of pipes out there for sale and I would love to try it but is the risk worth the extra power?

The Viper runs a hotter ignition timing curve and the head cooling is not as good as the seperate heads like the SRX has. Also the SRX came with a rear cooler. They also run a staggered compression pattern on the Viper for straight jetting across the board and IMO for the single pipe tuning characteristics. This becomes an issue when piping them. It is best to have your head re-machined, run a different head gasket or run an aftermarket head that has removeable domes. So yes the motors are similar in many ways ,but also very different in other ways. So if you choose to pipe it make yourself aware of these things and get it done right. Personally I would run EGT's to be safe. I didn't and paid the price.

making piped vipers be reliable is easy. people that have had trouble, didn't have all or one of the following...rear cooler, opti cool head gasket, proper jetting, improper octane of fuel, poor head setup, air leaks, etc. i've had pipes on my viper now for 4 yrs, w/no issues. i have proper setup tho. some pipes may also hold more heat into cylinder than others and some pipes run on the rpm where timing is at its hottest/peak, while other pipes run past that in a "safer" zone.

As long as you have it set up right it will be as reliable as a stock viper. I bought my viper this year that was piped, cluched and su as a new sled. I just turned 4200 mi and no problems. Runs like a top. Piston wash good, plugs look great, no DCS flash or overheating. Im running CPR's with proper jetting, heavy hitter clutch kit and v force reeds. I like it way better over my wifes stock viper. Its just got more grunt and punch when you hit that throttle.

No problems here, Running SLP trippels, added srx rear cooler and opti cool head gasket. Good to go.

I had CPR's..don't run them anymore. Mine probably would have been just fine. I was running a Speedwerx head and I have a rear cooler too. I have the Thunder products (TPI) air inlets in my airbox. I had them wide open on a Saturday's ride because it was around 35 deg. F. and all was well. The next day I rode and I forgot to close them up and the temp dropped down to about -5 deg. F. I was pinched across a long hayfield doing some racing with my buddies (in the lead too) and I hit a snow drift at 117 mph (on the dream o meter) and down she went. My own fault!!

Mopar....I know you run AAEN's. If they are like most of Olav's pipes they are probably pretty forgiving. The pipes of his I have run in the past have been more so than others.

Yes and no IMO. I ran pretty much the same thing with the heavy hitters. My ole man's Viper is just like mine but has always been stock...(best running stocker I have seen too) Anyways I found the CPRs to be flat on the bottom compared to a stocker but alot stronger in the mid/top end department. Plus my fuel usage was NOT good with the pipes. I just recently rode a guys 2002 Viper that has this same setup (CPRs) two weeks ago. It felt the same as I remember....flat bottom end and strong mid/top end. Now my buddy (my avatar photo) had a 780 BB 136" Viper with CPRs. Now that was a different story. That thing was strong all throughout the range but it broke a cylinder which is common on BB Vipers. Not much metal left after over sizing the pistons. That sled is now owned by Kip at Pat's Yamaha in Greenland, MI. It has a 944cc Price Performance motor in it which started as a 700sx motor. What a riot that thing is. Here's some photos of it. The guy that owned it (in photo) last is dead. He died 1 year ago from a blood clot at 40.

not trying to steal thread but how bout benders pipes, i was thinking about it myself and was thinking benders setup. always had good luck with anything else of his. anyone run these against other brands?

Benders work good as long as you follow their setup. They are the only ones that run stock rpm (8500) which at first was a problem being that is where the hotspot in the timing curve is. They have since resolved any issues concerning this.

I got my 02 VIPER already set up....It has been re- jetted, clutch kit,Air box,V- force reeds and it has the bender tripple pipes...They sound great and I haven't had any problems with the motor at all..Not sure on the jets or any of the specs on the sled cause I didn't do all of the after market stuff...I like them....O yeah I forgot about the M-10 suspention, GREAT ride..
