Currently I am getting about 4 miles per gallon of gas. I can only go about 30 miles on a tank of gas. What should I be getting for gas mileage? I am pretty sure I have 320 main jets. Not positive on other carb settings.

The jets will use more oil into your fuel mix, but the old exciters dont get that good...My lil brother has one for his backup sled and gets about 60-70 miles to a tank when he rides it nice. But it gets down to around 35-40 when we cruise up the river.

ya & a 150 hp apex will do 5 times better. It,s called technology!

My 1993 Exciter gets 13 to 15 miles per gallon. I have been getting this mileage since I have owned the sled.

has it always been that poor? if not check clutching, belt etc
check jetting all my Exciters were jetted RICH, except the 93 SX witch I piped new
what does the piston wash and plugs look like?

I had only a few chances to get it out this season. The gas mileage range from 3.5-5 miles per gallon. This sled didn't have alot of maintenance before I got it. Right now we are out of snow and it looks like we won't get any till next year, so I am in the process of tearing it down and replacing crank seal, head gaskets, base gaskets and carburetor needle valve seat assembly. The engine has a small coolant leak plus crank seal leak. I will also be replacing the track if I take care of the leaks and get it runing descent. The track is just about bare. At most 3/8" of paddle, no studs. Alot of spinning.

Exciter MPG

Check your carb settings too, jet sizing, clip locations, etc.
What rpms were you turning when riding at normal speeds?

Clutching can make a big difference & also what gears are you running in the chain case?

Lots of variables you need to look at.

I have have had 5 of the 570LC Exciters over the years starting with a 87, 89, 92 & a 93SX & just acquired a 88 for a project sled. They all averaged 11-13mpg, depending on riding condtions etc.

Even my Vmax 4 gets 7-9mpg so you do have some issues going on for sure!!

Good luck with the project. ;)!

here are some pictures of the spark plugs, heads and pistons.
