When the oil pump fails on the tripples does it go wide open? I ran out of oil on less then two full tanks of gas. Something is up..

I'll check the cable. But something is up. Because I had all the oil drain out of the tank on the garage floor this fall. Then I replaced all the lines. I need to check the cables. But I think its more then that. J
