What's the easiest way to package a skid for shipping? Hard to find a solid box. Would bubble wrapping and tight saran wrapping (no box) be an acceptable method with shipping companies?

Probably, I've heard of all sorts of odd shaped items shipped with just a tag on them. One guy that I know sent a car bumper all the way to California with just a shipping tag on it!

shipping

I shipped a skid and what i did was take the rear axle with wheels off, and both shocks which made the box alot smaller length and height. As mentioned, wrapping with clear plastic and putting a tag on it will work.

I have shipped large items similar to that with just a layer of brown shipping paper on the inside, and then a few wraps of the "saran wrap" they use to wrapping pallets in factories. Seems to work well.

go to a ups store and they'll pack it

I try to avoid that place like the plague. It seems to cost money just to walk through the door. Always way more expensive than typical USPS.

Unfortunately with some size packages you have no choice.

I got a skid last year from a guy that shipped it in a "portable closet" box from UHaul, fit pretty nice... but was $25 shipping from central NY to western NY... might be better to just shrink wrap it and put a sticker on...

I have shipped them in a $8 box from pak mail - they call it a golf club box. Works great, I have shipped a couple of the that way. The box is 15x15x48.

I shipped a moped once. Ratchet strapped it to a pallet laying on it's side & wrapped it with the saran wrap type plastic. went from Mi. to S.C. truck freight.

I shipped a skid once not wrapped in anything, I just had the set of bushings that go on the upper idlers zip-tied somewhere to the skid, and threw a shipping label on it.

I shipped one by unhooking on end of the shocks and zip tying the skid down low. I would also try shipping by grey hound. They are pretty cheap on big items if the guy on the other end is willing to pick it up at the station.

youre certainly right about that, i shipped one through them last dec. but i broke it down. was like $55 dollars if i remember right but buyer paid shipping. greyhound is another good option on larger items
