I've got a 2008 yamaha 500 venture fan cooled. i'm finding it sluggish on slow speed. When i'm going slow on a winding trail or slow in deep snow you can smell the belt burning. changed the belt no better. the snowmobile is quite hard on gas any ideas or help to throw at me.

I would guess it's the carbs or something to do with the oil mixture. I have a 2005 and the salesman suggested to me that I give mine a shot of throttle when it was safe to clear the plugs. As for the belt burning I would guess that the belt may be out of line but one thing I do is clean the sheaths with contact cleaner or something that's non oil based.

How tight is your track? Might be that it is too tight, at the middle of the rails there should be a slight sag (around an inch) when the rear of the sled is off the ground.
