I'm trying to undo a bolt in a VK540 Chaincase. The bolt holding on the lower drive sprocket.
Anyone have any hints on how to loosen it?
Flattened the retaining washer. But the drive axle spins as you apply force...
Can anyone confirm that it loosens in the counter clockwise direction?

leave the chain and upper sprocket on, as well as tensioning the adjuster bolt and use brakes to keep the shafts from spinning. lefty loosey.

what are you trying to do? the whole chain case just slides on the jackshaft and drive axle and the bolt does not hold it on the axle. had my uncles apart thinking i had to bolt it to the drive axle and it does not work that way. might be easyer if you had it out on the bench.

I'm trying to replace the bearing under the 3rd Pinion and the upper sprocket.
To do so I need to remove the chain. The bolt holds on the lower sprocket. I was trying to remove the lower sprocket, remove the chain, the remove the upper sprocket, remove the 3rd pinion. Re-assemble with new bearings.
But alas, it's a fiesty bolt.
So Maim - just remove the whole chain case? The journal slides out of the drive axle?

yes it does. i can take some pics monday for you of a removed one. very easy removal once you discover the drive axle is not bolted in.
