I was checking over my 01 srx 700 other day and with belt off was rotating primary back and forth and could hear a tapping in cylinders ,compared to my other sleds this one is more noticable.Thinking wrist pin, upper bearing?Anyone else ever notice this on there sled? sled has approx 2700 miles 120ish comp.runs strong.

Good thought didnt think about that, but checked it again cause noise def coming from cylinder. This time held piston top with pencil through plug hole #1 and #2 cyl while moving crank slightly back and forth and seemed to deaden noise quite a bit.I know some play is probably normal but seems excessive when i compare it to my other 01 with more miles.

yes im sure its not coming from clutch, can here it inside cyl.I only have to rotate crank back and forth ever so slightly to feel freeplay and here noise. before piston would start to move. I plan on tearing top end down this summer to have porting done so maby i will get a good look at whats going on.hopefully no bottom end issues.thanks

hey i had the same problem with my viper about a month ago. i was goin over my sled before a weekend trip and i noticed the same thing with my engine. was somewhat worried about it but just decided that it was the pistons rocking a bit since they all do to some degree. went ahead on the trip and my sled blew up on the return trip. locked up solid. not sure if noise was the start fo the problem as i have yet to tear it apart.but hope this helps dont wnat to scare you just giving you a heads up

TO A POINT THATS NORMAL. THAT NOISE IS ROD TOLERANCE ON CRANK- SHAFT. MATTER OF FACT THERE IS A SPEC (i think) IN THE SERVICE MANUAL FOR THAT. TELL YA, EVERY YAMAHA MOTOR I HAVE HAD DID THAT. NOW, CAN THAT GET TO BE BAD OR OUT OF SPEC. A MOTOR WITH 2700 MILES SHOULD BE FINE. SEE THAT PENCIL HELD PISTON FOR YA. TOOK AWAY THAT SIDE / TO SIDE MOVEMENT. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Sorry to hear that vmax let us know what you find. Hey Tony, Im thinkn along the same line as you.Do you think most of it is bottom end related though or have you seen top end issues to.I know with 2700k was wondering also how much is to much and if it might get worse? Thanks guys like i said will be tearing it down but not sure how far i will have to go.

STEVE, I KNOW ITS BOTTOM END RELATED. YOU WILL SEE WHAT YOU NEED TO SEE WHEN YA PULL CYLINDERS. I,LL SEE IN MY SERVICE MANUAL IF THERE IS A SPEC. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Tony, this sled is the one that i recently bought so i dont know to much history about it, belt delaminating over rev, low oil, over heating etc.Once i get it apart i will let you know and get your oppinon on it thanks. .

WELL IF YA HAVE THOSE THINGS GOING ON, SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE AFEW ISSUES. THINK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE, YOU HAVE ALL SUMMER NOW lol. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Ha, i dont have all those issues now but if the previous owner had one or more of these issues possibly could have caused premature wear im thinkn, and yes your right yhey are my issues now.HOT SUMMER NIGHTS GOTTA LOVE EM .

HEY, PART OF '' FLY UNDER THE RADER, LET THE SLED DO THE TALKING '' IS WRENCHING ON NINETY DEGREE DAYS. lol. good luck bud. 3:16 (yammie tony)
