Will a '98 cylinder work in an '01 SRX 700?

Well, it will work, but the porting is different on the '98-'99's, so it will not work as it should. Get yourself a '00 or newer cylinder. I have one if you need one.

wildmax, if you have a '01 srx, the casting # on the side of the cylinder should read "8DN-10". '98 and '99 srx 700 cylinders read "8DN-00". valin is correct on the port timing differences. you could put '98-'99 cylinders on your '01 bottom end, but would need all the same cylinders.
Thanks for the info, I knew the timing was different but got to thinking was it the base gasket or the cut? And thanks for the line on the jug, Valin. I haven't opened the mills up yet so really don't know what I need - just trying to think ahead. Had a '98 bust through the bottom and an '01 seize one on top - all in the same day.
