When I pull my '98 SRX 700 over and try to start it it is wayyy easier to pull than my buddies '01 SXR 700 with 2,XXX miles on it. I have no clue what my miles are cause the speedo and odometer didn't work when I bought it from a friend. I do not have a compression tester, so am I in the ballpark using this as a comparison? I am thinking I need to do rings.
Also if I send my pistons, heads, cylinders, and powervalves out to say Mr. Viper or Bender or Full Power Performance, will they do rings and de-glaze my cylinders for me with the port job?

How many miles are on your motor? If you are going to be pulling it apart to have your cylinders ported, throw some new rings in there for sure, and break it in on mineral oil.

If you ask any of those builders, they will deglaze the cylinders for you, and you can install new rings. If you don't have too many miles on those pistons and they are still in good shape, I would just run new rings.

Odometer reads 6865. And I have put on at least 1000 miles. So at least 7800 plus whatever my buddy put on after the odo took a s#!t.
Who do you think I should see for good porting Ryan?
Not a big mileage rider. Lake running and little 50-100 mile trail rips.

Justin Fuller does great work, but he's expensive. Iantomasi does great work also, but he's up in Canada. I would say that your cheapest route would probably be to send it to Don. Explain your situation, and what kind of riding you'll be doing, and he'll take care of you.

sx is harder to pull over than srx. normal.
justin & bender do the best trail port job & make the most h.p.. bender will measure the wall clearance & hone cylinders. they have all parts & gaskets in stock. spring special from bender: 30% off all trail port jobs if paid for or shipped to them by 3/31/10. heath/mike 716 941 5840.

I checked Bender's website and 30% off their standard port job on an SRX comes out to around $455. If that is so, it sounds good to me:)

Oh, guess I should add I already rippped my motor apart too. Guess I'm gonna get some porting done this summer.

I gotta agree with Ricky Bobby."I wanna go FAST!" too.

At the risk of starting something, that's in the ballpark of what Don (aka - Mr. Viper) is getting to port an SRX. Might want to call or PM him for comparision.
