So my brothers and i line up our sleds on the lake (a few weeks ago). My 2001 SRX700 i think is running good (cleaned powervalves, track tension good, premium fuel, newer belt and both clutches were just disassembled, degreased and reassembled with new ramps). The sled is stock except for 144 studs and ATS Arrow skis.
Well i was so confident that i'd win that i bet lunch on it. Both of my brothers beat me by a long shot... like 6 lengths on a small lake. My one bro runs a 2002 Viper ER, stock except 144 studs. And my other brother runs a 2001 MXZ800 stock no studs. All 3 of our sleds are in good condition and decently maintained.
Aren't SRX supposed to smoke almost anything stock to stock? I was revving out at 8500rpm.
I have come up with a few ideas as to why it is slower and not smoking these sleds. Here they are. Powervalves not setup properly (even though i used the tool that you hook up to a battery), dirty carbs (have't been cleaned in a couple years, chaincase chain too tight. Would this stuff make a big difference, enough to get smoked?
Just looking for a little input. Won't be able to test it again until next year...

the experts are going to ask whats in there for clutching, they need to know so they can help you out and also the search works well too just type in SRX clutching, and there will be reading for days on how to get your cluches setup.
Hope this helps

no way they should even be close to you, especially stock to stock. i also would make sure clutches are shifting all the way out. definitely something wrong somewhere.

Take a GPS out with you an see what your top speed is, conditions are a big factor. Try to get something where its warm during the day cold at night so it freezes the snow hard. Do your speed runs in the morning, most GPS units have a top speed feature so you can just put it in your pocket and check it after you have stopped.
I can hit 115mph when the snow is frozen hard on the lake (01 SRX, 144 studs, 1" track, graphite sliders)
I was only able to get 105 when the snow is fluffy on the lake, even if its only 1-2 cm. The GPS should give you an idea of where your at.

Sounds like a clutching issue to me. Belt is doing a lot of spinning but is not applying power to the track.
Just my opinion.

Is clutching and jetting all stock on the SRX? An '01 SRX should destroy both those sleds. Something's up.......

do you have adjustable transfer rods? if the weight doesn't transfer it will make a huge difference. i can easily keep up to my buddies Apex and RX1,mine is still stock. we played on the lake in North Bay a couple of weeks ago and we were getting up to and over 180 km/h and trading wins depending on traction.
All clutching is stock and both clutches were just taken apart, degreased and cleaned by my Yamaha dealer. Don't think it's the clutching, but it could be.
The sled was topping out at 160km/h.
Is there anyone out there in Southern Ontario that is an SRX Clutch Specialist? I'm ok at working on motors but have never worked on a clutch before.

Can you tell us what in the clutches now Spring color for the primary and the secondary, if it stock the color should be Y-W-Y, 8DN-20 weights, red dot secondary spring and a 47 helix please confirm so the experts can help
When is the last time you did a compression test. Have you checked your reeds lately?

Its all about hookup in short sprints..If you cant get the traction...you will get beat . no matter what you got!Take the plastic shims outa the transfer rods and try er again...I bet different story!

Cobourg, ON area
Was your parking brake on?
I can't imagine that you are spinning bad enough to get smoked that bad without knowing it.
Like others posted, I suspect that something is out of whack on your sled.
I suggest riding or at least running with another SRX to see what they should be like.
