Have a 99' 700 mm and a 00' 700 mm. Bought both used so didn't have much history. Thought I went through them pretty good. Buddies sled locked up six miles in on last ride (ski doo). His brother started towing him out with his older Polaris and temp. light came on and wouldn't stay off. So I hooked up and towed his sled and 300 pound heartbroken person back. My temp light didn't come on. Pretty packed trail. When got back though could tell she was hot. Lots of steam off rear radiator, etc. Let idle for a few min. Got home and out of curiosity found hard/tight to pull. Started and everything seemed normal from there. Decided to check temp light and found no bulb!!. Put a good bulb in and it stays on all the time, even if I unplug the sensor or jump the sensor. Checked my 99' and light doesn't come on with sensor unplugged or jumped. Did not check the bulb yet on the 99' because the dash cluster needs pulled to access the bulb on the earlier style. Even checked my 85' Inviter and found light did not come on but for a few seconds. Doesn't matter if I ground the single lead that normally hooks to sensor. On the Inviter the light might come on with the sensor lead hooked, unhooked, or grounded if bulb is remove for a few seconds then reinstalled, but goes out in about 2 seconds.
Anyone have info on how to test the circuit? Hopefully I didn't shorten the life of any of these sleds too much already buy running them hot without knowing.

you may have issues with the cdi box. the temp sensor should feed off the cdi with a blue/red wire, and the lighting portion is a green/red from the light to the cdi, via a connector or two. thats how you should get the start-up self diagnostics where the temp light will flash three time at start-up to indicate all is well.

thanks snowdad. may try swapping cdis from sled to sled to see what changes and go from there.
