i know there was a thread on this a few weeks ago, but i want to know are they reliable ? do people ride trails with their 700 big bored to 800. looking to make a sleeper sled, with the 800 big bore, but not sure how reliable it would be ? how much would it cost about to do it from bone stock to everything you need to do for the 800 big bore?

not so sleeper anymore

below is my dyno sheet from dynotech. this is on pump gas. no octane booster....bender does not recommend it on any of their ported or big bore motors. motor has 3500 trail miles on it. jim said if i were to jet it down we would have made 200+ h.p. that day!!!

780 is a better value

When looking at a kit, some things to look at is the 780 use a replated nicasil cylinder not a steel sleeved cylinder in a 835 which doesnt dissapate heat as fast, requiring richer jetting to keep the piston cooler. Also the bender pipes are a addtional $1100.00 more on the price. Whats not being told is this was with 38mm carbs, ported case, pipes on top of the 835 kit. Youll rack up alot more money with a 835 then a 780, a 780 works quite well with stock pipes, stock carbs, you can get a very strong trail sled. If you have a good trail port they will average a solid 160-165hp on a stock bottomend and stock pipes .The stock cooling system is also fine with a 780, not so with a 835, youll need to purchase extra cooling exchangers under the tunnel, both from the engine is larger, steel sleeves retain more heat and the stock cooling system will support only around 170hp..
You can always step up the 780 with larger carbs, ported case, yet still retain the stock pipes and be 170-172hp with stock like appearance and sound levels, something you may need to comply with for your state. Some states dont even allow a can on a sled, much less a 3 silencer set of aftermarket pipes which are very noteably louder then stock.

eric:
if $$ is an issue then the best bang for the buck is to have bender trail port your 700 cylinders. their trail port dynos @ 158 - 162 h.p. ( & no cans of octane booster rolling around in the back of the seat ) . the only extra item you would need is vforce reeds. bender is having a 30% off porting sale now which is good until 3/31. if you still want a 835 you can save $$ & use stock carbs & stock cases & still have close to 180 h.p.. the 835 is more durable than the 780 because of the steel sleeves. boring to 780cc removes so much of the cylinder material that the skirts can break off & cause major internal damage.

Eric, again whats not told here is the 157hp is obtained in conjuction with vforce reeds, airbox mods and a silencer(lol), the porting alone with no other mods coming from thier very own stage tuning dyno sheets, written by themselves...is a mere 8.7hp gain over stock on just porting alone. Do some checking and read snow tech, oct/nov 1998. Youll also notice there isnt any coolant temps provided so you cant tell if they are cold pulls which will result in artifically inflated numbers, and it doesnt show you a sweep time. These things are always suspect when they achieved 142hp from a 98srx, where most other dyno facilitys reports 137-138hp results, the 2000-02 srx with more porting, more compression, better 3d ign.system were at 142hp for a good one.
Dont be sold on "said dyno results" alone, because if they dont run like the sheet shows, in the field against your competition/buddys,all you have is a sheet of paper floating around in your trunk and a lighter wallet. Research is your friend when it comes to engine mods, see whos sled performs like it was sold as and whose sled just has a nice peice of paper in the trunk and gets beat by stockers and doesnt pull anymore clutch weight then stock.
The easiest way to tell if you have been "had" on the sales pitch is if the sled pulls more clutch weight, if it doesnt, it doesnt make anymore power then stock. A increase in hp will result in a need to add clutch weight to keep it at the same rpm if no other clutch parts are changed, it simply will overrev. So its always best to leave the clutching stock to double check your hp gain progress, then tune the clutching in to take advantedge of your newly found power.

Shop wisely! :wel:

a engine dyno is simply a engine tuning tool. tuning the engine on a dyno saves a ton of time testing on the track or in the field & eliminates the guess work of whether your mods are working or not & how much they are affecting the engine's performance. bender & all the other big shops are continually dyno testing to make improvements to the current mods they are doing to customers engines. results from a magazine 12 years ago ( when the srx first came out ) are just that....old news.
here are real world results: my bender sxr800 made close to 160 h.p. on the dyno w/ 157.5 winter jets. my bender trail ported 700 srx made almost the same 160 h.p. w/ 157.5 jets but 300 rpm's lower. the 800sxr had a bit more mid range h.p.. both sleds had the same 1" predator tracks w/ 192 megabites. @ north bay on radar in 2000' they would always run within 1 mph of each other w/ the sxr being faster. in a side by side roll on race accross a lake the sxr would always edge out the srx ( same gearing in both & approx same driver weight ). makes sense when you factor in that the sxr weighs 20# less & has more mid range h.p.. also, the bender trail port srx would consistantly run about 5-6 mph faster on the gun than a stock srx.

these guys can bicker back and forth about whos is better.... i OWN AND RIDE 3 SRX'S. I have a bone stock 98. wich is pretty fast due to the hauck clutch kit. I have a bender trail ported motor and i have a bender 835. i have no info yet on the big bore dur to the fact that i just got it. Ill tell u what though !!!! trail ported with a couple of other bender mods KICKS *** !!!!

2000 ported srx, and an 01 835. no data yet on the 835, but i cant think of ANY races ive lost (on the trails) with my 2000.

MIKE, BRING ONE OF THOSE SRX,s TO JIACOBBE,S THIS FALL. I LOVE TO RACE YA. THAT BENDER PORTED 2000 AGAINST MY 2000. WHICH BY THE WAY IS NOT PORTED BUT IS BLUEPRINTED TO ISR SPEC. THAT WAS DONE HERE BY MARK VICKIO. I NO NONE OF YOU BIG BOYS EVER HEARD OF HIM. lol. 3:16 (yammie tony)

4get the grass !!!!!!! LOLOLOL im still trying to get mud of my asphalt chassis thanks to ur neighbor. (one day of kickin ***.... 6 months of cleaning)

Eric , unless you have acheived maximum performance, with your already Bender ported cylinders , i know i seen them !!!!!! , then keep @ it with what you got .... you should have run 122/125 mph this spring , guys are going out to the lake sat.....if you want to go cal me or pm me and ill tell you where ....

Wes has the same cylinders , and ran 122 last sunday ...work on your clutching and skid set up there is alot of knowledge there !!!1
