This may seem like a silly question to most of you, but how exactly is "direct oil injection" accomplished?... I have seen the posts regrding this and the photos along with them and for the life of me can't understand the hook up.....

Doesn't all fuel consumed by a sled first have to enter the float bowls?.... If so then to what fittings are the injections kit's hoses connected to.... Do you need to tap new fittings into the carbs to inject oil directly? There isn't a diagram on Bender's web site or a decent explanation...

Thanks....

I think those kits came about when Polaris had a ton of issues with thier Fuji triples years ago. You simply don't need it on your 500, unless your oil pump is worn out. If that happens, you'll actually have way too much oil, and it should be replaced. Check out Bender's website.

Hey John..... You are correct, I don't need one and probably won't ever install one....I just would like to know how they work and how they are hooked up.... Strictly a knowlege perspective.....

thanks.... Did you get my private mail?....

Later...

Yep

Some heavy mod guys like to squirt that oil straight into the source, into the bottom end to make sure hte bearings are baithed in it, like biscuits and gravy...lol

If you put triple pipes on an XLT Poodle, you'll probably need it!

The Benders direct oil injection kits run from your oil pump to your carbs. You drill a hole in the carb body and insert a brass fiting. The hoses connect to that fiting and your oil pump. You then block off the oil fiting on your fuel pumps. If you look at your carb you will see on the sides where it goes. Its like a raised out part with a dimple in the middle.Kinda hard for me to explain it exactly but you willl see it.The idea behind it is for less plug fouling and more consistant jeting.Since the proper oil flow is there at all times. When your going wide open throttle your oil mix is higher. When you let off the throttle that oil mix is still in your float bowls so your oil mix is higher than what you really need for a brief period.I ran one of these on a Vmax-4 i used to have.

Just to add my 2cents worth, I was told the benefits were that when you are at a wide open throttle say for a quick run, by the time the oil pumps gas into the fuel pump, mixes it and puts it in the carb float bowls as the old gas burns off, then into your engine, youre probabaly off the gas again, and your oil amount gets high then when you don't need it, it's too big of a delay, this way whatever you do with your throttle, either on of off the oil/gas misture is almost perfect instantly.
