They are a tool. Like any tool they are worthless if you don't know how to use them or take the time to properly set them. You can't just slap them on and go "so and so's motor is safe at 1250 so mine is too." You have to have the proper plug read and piston wash to give you an idea of what the temps on the gauge show you. Depends on probe location, fuel quality, and other things.

EGT's
I agree 100% with Ryan B.
You have to learn how to use them properly. I have a 4 window Digatron and it is excellent tuning tool as well. Hook it up to your laptop and it will show you where your shift points are. Pretty cool stuff.

Mike - Don't bother with the gauges. Wayyy to much trouble installing then monitoring not to mention the expence. Learn to become a pro tuner old school. Learn to read spark plugs. You probably see a lot of guys looking at their plugs. None of the guys in my group have a clue of what to look for. Buy a bend a light or similar product. Don't buy cheap or the light wont be bright enough. Start looking at the top of the piston and it will tell you what is happening inside the motor. Then read everything you can find on the subject and ask questions here. This tool is bright and work great. Buy an extra bulb.

Plug chops and most sleds/atvs/bikes are easy to tune with a little experience
