Hey all,
I'm pulling apart a used clutch I just bought and found a spacer behind the primary clutch spring. It's about 1/4 of an inch wide, light aluminum and fit properly on the spider (between the spider and the spring).
Has anyone got any comments on the value - detriment to the use of this spacer.

if its about 1/4"(actally 8mm) THICK, it would be a spacer to run short cover springs in a tall cover primary. bender and others supplied those with some clutch kits, some had a slight taper to them.

he said it was 1/4" wide, not thick..so probably engagement shim, thats what they are approx. in the diameter width.Get us a pic and we will know for sure...

yes, i can read, and he said light aluminum and it fit properly. not sure about your engagement shims Blue, but for some reason the stacks of shims that i have seem to slop a bit. i wouldnt use the term proper fit. and for some reason they are attracted to a magnet, read as NOT aluminum. hence the offering of an option in lieu of it not being a shim. lets let the guy with the clutch in question clarify his definition of width without you trying to correct things along the way.

Sounds like a goodwin engaement shim. They make them in 2 sizes in aluminum.
