I have the biggest part of a gallon of muriatic acid kicking around my shed and am wondering what to do with it.I have used small amounts of it here and there to clean up cylinders and even given some away to friends for the same purpose but would it be possible to dilute it down to use as cleaner for really dirty aluminum parts?I know the affect it has on aluminum so it would have to be diluted down alot and mabey it would be ineffective diluted down that much I don't know.I'm just wondering what else I can use this stuff for.
we use hydroflouric (HF) and sulfuric (H2SO4) acid to clean aluminum where i work. the hf does a much better job. it will eat off polish along with the dirt though. kind of like using very fine sandpaper. muriatic shouldnt be as potent as hf pure vs pure, but i forget our mix ratio...
mix it with water until you can barely taste sour. then test and richen if you need to.
be sure to start out REALLY weak, chemical burns hurt...

I would try 10 parts water to 1 part muriatic and go from there. Try it first in a spot that's hidden.
