GUYS LIKE VALIN, DAN '' JABBER ,'' MOPAR1RULES (josh) BUFFALO BOB, etc. GOT TO SPEND THE DAY AT DYNOTECH YESTURDAY. GREAT FUN WATCHING WHAT A DYNO CAN DO. AMAZEING NUMBERS BY MY NEIGHBOR 700 SX WITH BENDER TRIPLES. I WON,T POST HP BUT I WILL SAY THOSE PIPES ARE EXTREMELY PEAKY AND MADE BEST HP AT 9000. LIKE I POSTED AFEW MONTHS BACK. OF CORSE, SOME POSTED TO RUN THOSE AT 8500. WAY OFF. ANYWAYS HERE SOMETHING, HOW YOU GUYS FEEL ABOUT SPARK PLUG GAP. FOR YEAR GOING BACK TO WHEN I RACED SRX 440,s I ALWAYS USED YAMAHA SPEC OF .028-.033. YESTURDAY I DID SEE SOME POWER INCRESE WITH SMALLER GAP ?. ANYBODY !! 3:16 (yammie tony)

all pipes from the same manufacturer are not created exactly equal, there can be differences. that's why dyno tuning is sooo important.
the same set of pipes can peak @ 8500 or 9000, it just depends on how much heat is in them which is in direct relation to jetting, hood venting, timing, coolant temperature & run time. the hotter the center section temperature the more the power peak slides up. my 800 sxr w/ bender triples peaks @ 8800 & looses 9 h.p. @ 9000 but only has a difference of 2.5 h.p. between 8500 & 8900.
bender & full power perf. trail ported 700 sxr w/ bender triple pipes is around 150 h.p.. they built a race version for a ty member that was 170+ h.p..
the closer the gap the longer the stator lasts. i run .018 - .020 on all my sleds.

BOB, GREAT INFO. PRETTY MUCH JUST WHAT HAPPENED. HP WAS RIGHT IN THAT RANGE INTRESTING ON PLUG GAP. WHY DEFFERENT THAN YAMAHA SPEC. 3:16 (yammie tony)

I maybe have a dumb question here but how do you dyno tune a sled with out having cold air to tune it in?? I mean if you are dyno tuning a sled in a shop where it is 80 degrees how is that setup going to work when it is 10 degrees outside?

srx700guy: go to dynotechresearch.com & spend the $30. to become a subscriber. all your questions & more will be answered.
tony: closer gap gives stronger spark, thus a better burn on the flame front. the wider gap makes the ignition coil work harder to jump the spark between the ground strap & center electrode. ski doo is .018.
bob

SRX700GUY, EXACTLY RIGHT. DYNOTECHRESERCH .COM WILL EXPLAIN IT ALL. I CAN TELL YA TO BE NEW AND INPROVED OUTSIDE COLD AIR TO THE POINT WHERE IT MIGHT SNOW IN THE DYNO ROOM. I THINK NGK PLUGS COME THAT WAY RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX, GOOD INFO. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Is there info on that site about good setups and what people are running to get the numbers they are getting? I went to the website and looked around as much as you can without being a subscriber and I was just wondering some more about the site before I pay the money.
I have another maybe dumb question but from the pictures I saw it looks like the dyno numbers are coming directly from the crank? How much power does a sled loose from the crank to what it is actually putting to the ground? I know for example like on cars it can be fairly significant amount of horsepower lost between the flywheel and the rear tires.
Do they make dynos for sleds to use the track to get numbers? I'm asking cause it would be nice to try it that way and try different things to get the least rolling resistance possible so you are putting the most power you can to the ground.

THIS IS A ENGINE DYNO. NOT A TRACK DYNO, NOT A CHASSIS DYNO etc. THE ENGINE DYNO IS THE MOST INPORTANT TUNEING TOOL OF ALL THE OTHERS. THIS WILL NOT ONLY GIVE YA HP NUMBERS, BUT IT WILL TELL YA WHAT TO CLUTCH FOR, WHAT TO JET FOR, AND GIVE YA INPORTANT .BSCF AND TORQUE NUMBERS. WITH OUT THESE THINGS WHATS THE POINT OF A TRACK DYNO. YOUR MOTOR IS YOUR LIFEBLOOD. THAT SITE IS NOT TO GET SET-UPS, TY IS FOR THAT. WHAT YOU CAN GET FROM THAT IS GREAT INFO ON SRX 700 ENGINES THAT WERE TESTED AND TUNED. 3:16 (yammie tony)

the track dyno comes into play after u have the engine dialed in and this is the place that seperates the boys from men, u can make all the ponies u want but if ur not putting them on the track then it does not matter. so now the track dyno is great for clutching in the secondary. now we all know that the red head tripple yamis lacked cooling in the heads, i was running in 2 feet of deep wet very heavy snow at 40 degree above 0 i have 2 settings in the secondaary one that had the engine not laboring or the engine heat light never come on , the second day i made a change only secondary , engine seemed 2 labor a little and tha engine hot light come on after about 15 min of riding and i had no slippage in the secondary. the track dyno allso simulates ur riding weight . i have buddies who have bothdynos, it does, ent get any better than that. thats how i know ur rooler secodarys will put more power 2 the trac than a button clutch. some will agree 2 disagree??????????????????

srx700guy: jaber800 has a dynojet track dyno. ask him the track dyno questions.
max4: "now we all know that the red head tripple yamis lacked cooling in the heads". first i've ever heard this one!! not so.

I wish I had access to both types of dynos!! hell I would be happy to have access to either type.

that's cool tony. kinda cool to that you now found out exactly what your buddies sx w/bender triples likes to run @ for peak hp. yeah, in my ski-doo rev, i run the gap @ .020". book calls for .018", tho i go a smidge wider.

Great work Tony! We made the trip to see Jim twice. We had problems but still realized how important a tool the dyno can be! So I went out and bought one shortly after!! Now we are test and learning more with almost every pass.. As far as the debate on engine vs chassis dyno, they are both great tools if I could afford a good engine dyno I'd have one of those aswell.. Maybe some day!!

i will post this for u all a 1993 prostocker vmax4 750 with the 800 top end pipes unkown high rpm box rpc engine dynoed this winter @220 hp and on a track dyno 119hp 2 the track all done buy the same people Ross brothers kindersley sask the same dude thats got that 1000 pro stocker vmax4 that runs in the world series usa

I AM SHURE THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HE MEANS.
THANKS DAN, I AM GONNA MAKE APPOINTMENT WITH JIM TO BRING MY 2000 SRX UP. LOVE TO TEST IT SINSE I INSTALLED THAT RACE CDI. 3:16 (yammie tony)

I'd like to see what kind of power that cdi makes down low compared to the stock cdi. Hopefully you do some back to back runs down there to compare. Let us know when you are planning on going, and I'll be sure to tune in to watch.

yes i,m talkin 800 top end. we actually have 2 done up like this , i have yet 2 dyno mine just got back 2 geather and fired up 10 of march. they are a little quicker 2 rev as the 750 crank is lighter.
