Hello, new to this site so I hope I'm posting this question in the correct area. I am wondering if anyone here has taken the time to put a big bore kit on a Viper motor. If there are differrent size kits, I would be asking about a kit that has the biggest displacement. I have a Viper motor but because of what its in my main concern is any gain in the height of the motor. Any info would be appreciated.

Hey Griz - Welcome to the site. Yes you are in the right forum. Big bore questions and answers can be found if you use the search function above. Their has been alot of discussion about 780, 800, 835, 1000cc Vipers. ---mac---

Thanks for the welcome Mac, searching this morning I did see height and width changes on pistons, nothing on overall height dimension changes of the motor, 780 or 1000.

GR1ZZLY the 780 and 835 bigbore kits for the Viper are bore mods only. Overall height of engine remains the same. The biggest concern would be pipe fitment. These bigger bore engines Like a larger volume set of tripple pipes to get the most out of them. Very neat looking quad!! Do you drag race this and if so what kind of times and speeds does it run?

and what motor do you have in it?
my guess is a viper motor im betting thats why hes asking. atvs with sled motors can run 9s no prob Ive seen them hit 8s like cake and yes that the 1/4 mile

Yes, I just realized now that his info says "viper motor in an quad". Just ignore me.

Yes this is a drag only machine, not a lick of suspension on it. This is a new machine for myself this year, moving from a 4 stroke to 2 stroke. I picked this up last fall, setup for sand drags which I'm coverting to asphalt only. I've had it at the dragaway for the 1st time last Thursday, with the belt slipping thru majority of the run I didn't even take any time slips on it. Hopefully I will have answer for ya by next weekend. As for exhaust pipes, I hope these are big enough.
For a big bore kit, that's great to hear the height of the motor doesn't change. I have very little room between the chassis and the top end. I figured it had to get bigger somewhere. I am 90% sure the motor in it is a Viper 700, if I'm sitting on it the left side on the head is stamped 8EK00, 695CM3, Y-1. I don't see other markings to identify it, but I could be just missing it.

8EK00 would make it a Viper motor

Griz - After seeing your pictures I'm just full of questions. Whose pipes are those? Also what heads are on the machine? The stock Viper head is not chambered the same on all three cylinders. Who knows maybe the last owner had the heads re-chambered. Did the last owner do any other engine mods. How about carbs. Does it have the stock 33mm rack? Airbox?

Thank you for making myself 100% sure.

Will do, I really don't want to post EXACT times, I am running RSD events and a little birdie tells me my competition has already found me over here. When it's over I'll post time slips.

When I got it, the total weight was 368lbs. Since then I took 5.5 lbs off the wheelie bar, put new wheels on and replaced the entire rear end with a configuration that's a little over 1/2 the weight. Going from paddle tires to slicks made the biggest difference, I'm guessing under 350 BUT! it really doesn't matter since my fat a$$ is 250. Some day I'll work on that too.

Mac these are all really good questions. I purchased this from the original builder, who is an auto mechanic. I lost his contact information since the purchase, this is why I signed up on a couple sites for different ideas and overall find out what the heck I got.
Whose pipes are those? They only thing I can say is here are big letters stamped on the side "RDZ", I'm going to assume they came from this company
Also what heads are on the machine? Unfortunately I have no idea, if you want me to take a picture of a paticular area, let me know that's certainly not a problem. I was wondering if it was a stock head.
As for heads being re-chambered, I don't have an answer for that either. To be honest I don't know what re-chambered is but I'm all ears.
Does it have the stock 33mm rack? I am going to say no on this one, I replaced the air filters over the winter and the ID on the filter was 2 3/4". If you could tell me me where to make a measurement and we will both know what they are.
Airbox? 3 K&N Filters, let it breathe.
Keep the questions coming, if I need to take pictures or measure something, eventually I will know everything on this motor (evereyone else too lol)
I also have to say I think this machine fits in pretty good with this website, it's a Yamaha motor, R1 brakes with a YFZ250F rotor, YFZ450 plastics, minus the polaris/artic clutch setup. It's ALMOST total Yamaha.

Griz - That is truly a one off build from what I can see in the pics. I have never heard of RDZ. When it comes to snowmobile pipe manufactures the guys on this site know the target RPM of each pipe builder for sleds. I doubt anyone here could help recommend what RPM as every pipe builder has a different RPM where max HP is achieved. You would need to contact RDZ and inquire about these pipes and what RPM they make max power. What RPM are you turning when 3/4 down the track?
I notice a cover over the power valves. This engine had factory variable power valves. I would guess the previous owner could not incorporate the electronics to operate the servo.
The head is the stock Yamaha head. You won't know if has been modified until you take it apart. When I say modified I'm referring to the chamber size in cc. You can raise and lower the compression by machining the head. What fuel are you using?
Also I can see a Polaris primary clutch and a roller secondary. You will have to learn how to tune this setup to obtain maximum performance and RPM control.

the best way 2 find out pipe performance is a dyno all of ur internal parts and how they are conformed will change those stats as 2 what rpms 2 run, don,t waist ur time every body has a answer the only right one i can give u is dyno then clutch 2 that and u will be at maximum run ability my 2 cents, the dyno is not expensive if ur a serious runner AL
