i'm looking to buy a 79 srx. Is there good and bad things to look out for.
One i'm looking at is suppose to have a new 108 comet clutch, stock carb and gearing.
What should the compression be?
I would like to trail ride it some and ran it in 660 ft drags any good idea's or setups tips on carbs , gearing or any other tweaks.

THE BEST TRAIL / CONSUMER SRX OF THEM ALL FROM THAT ERA IN MY OPINION. STILL HAVE MINE I HAVE HAD SINSE NEW. GREAT SLEDS, VERY FAST IN THEIR DAY. I WOULD NOT RUN A 108 ON THESE SLEDS, BUT WOULD TRY AND FIND A 102 c WAY BETTER. A HEALTHY SRX SHOULD HAVE psi AROUND 135 / 140 . VERY CRITICAL ON THESE SLEDS IS CONDITION OF NICSIL ON CYLINDERS. COULD BE HURT IF SLED WAS BURNED DOWN AFEW TIMES. STOCK GEARING WAS 18-29. STOCK CARBS WERE .36 mm. PREFIX CHASSIS NUMBER FOR 79 SRX IS 8J0. 3:16 (yammie tony)

what is the difference between a 102 and a 108. what gearing would you recommend for 660 ft drags and any other changes thanks yammie tony

THE 108 I BELIEVE WAS MORE FOR THE NEWER SLEDS LIKE AFTER 1985. THING ABOUT THE 108 IS THE PHYSCAL SIZE OF IT VS THE 102. IT HAS ALOT MORE EXTRA WEIGHT TO THE SHORT SRX PTO STUB. I WOULD NOT RUN THESE ON THIS SLED. BEST GEARING FOR 660 IS 17-31. IF YA GET THIS SLED, I CAN HELP YA ONLY IF YA GO TO A 102 c. I NEVER USED A 108. 3:16 (yammie tony)
 
In that year..There were some that passed 100 mph in radar runs.

So - what is my 338 GPX worth..I don't want to fix it.
