I have a couple of SRX parts engines, a '98 with a busted case and an '01 with a melted piston. I was thinking of putting the '98 cylinders and heads on the '01 bottom end and using it in the '01 chassis. I thought this was ok to do but wondered about the CDI and power valves. Any suggestions??? Thanks.

Shouldn't be an issue. 98/99 ran a little different porting and head set up so you will be down a touch on power from the 00 up motor. Powervalves and cdi won't care. Might have to play with the jetting a touch as I'm not up on the difference's between the two motors but that should not be big deal.

I was thinking I would gain a little power with the '98 top end from the porting difference???

The 2000 - 2002 SRX cylinders had a little more aggresive porting [like a pretty mild porting on the original 98/99 cylinders]

As already stated, you would be slightly "Detuning" a 2000 - 2002 SRX by adding stock 1998/99 cylinders + heads.

Thanks. I'll just redo the '01 jugs, look into whatever mods that might work out and be on my way.

wildmax, you're only going to be down approx 5hp w/running 98/99 cylinders. if its only a trail sled, you probably won't notice the slight hp drop. it might not be worth the $$$ to fix the '01 cylinders and have that approx extra 5hp. i also have a good '98/'99 crank and crankcase, if interested.

instead of fixing the 01' cylinders, sell them and put the money towards a nice trail port job on the good 98/99 cylinders. IMO
