Well last year our group had a couple high dollar engines blow up due to studs rupturing the coolant system, both sleds had egt's but since they won't detect the increase in heat due to no coolant i was wondering if anyone knows of a way to hook up a sensor in the coolant tank to detect low coolant levels similiar to the low oil sensor on the oil tanks so if the coolant does start leaking out you could know before the engine over heats and costs a top end, any help or ideas would be great thanks
you could do that by using one from a newer car, they have sensors on the coolant tanks and make it turn on a red led light on the dash.
thats a good idea ..but just curious the egt guages didnt show exhaust tep rising due to no anitfreeze ?
after doing some looking found some float style switch it for oil but i am sure it could probally be used for antifreeze it a ls1 oil pan low level switch ...just threads into the drain bolt ...
I was going to mention you could use a float switch out of some brake resevoirs on cars, but who knows if it would take the heat of the anti-freeze. Best bet is probably what mrviper said as you know for sure it will handle the heat/chemical.

ill see if i can get one from a car tank and rig it up, no the egt's didn't show an increase in exhaust temp or at least not enough of an increase to realize something was wrong on either sled, thanks for the help mr viper and if anyone else has any ideas post em up thanks
u could use a windshield washer level sensor .......i know some windshield washer doesnt work to go good for chrysler sensor but i would do a try with antifreeze
ok i have done alot of searching and reading and talking with a few guys and almost all low collant sensors are 2 small prongs about 1/8 inch apart ..and when coolant touches both probes a small amount of voltage transfers thru coolant making a closed loop ...when coolant does not contact probes the loop is open and turns on a light ...so with a peice of alumnium connected under coolant tank you could tap and thread a sensor into the tube ...and make your own low coolant light ...of course the higher up you get the sensor the sooner you would know you have low coolant .....i friend of mine whiped up a system on the work bench to show me how it works ....using the sensor from a fox body mustang and a light and battery ,,,

Probably don't need to tell you that you should already be making these.
i have made one already just got to install it ...had to machine some parts on the cnc working on a kit ....to sell to site members

in alot of gm vechiles in the rad is a low antifreeze sensor it works of just antifreeze against the eclectroids iam sure if you figured out what the sensor does with antifreeze is on it you could rig up a light
yup the malibu has the sensor in the radiator tank ..works the same way when the anti freeze does not touch both prongs light comes on ....
