If I were to go out looking or run across either on the these sleds, which years should I look for and why. And on the other side of the coin....which years should I steer away from and why.

Thanks

As with most things that are improved and refined over time, the last year for a given model will tend to be the best.
The biggest thing that I heard about on the Vipers were that the original shock valveing was poor, which Yamaha addressed. Beyond that, Vipers tend to be rock solid.
I have 8000 trouble free miles on mine.
Good luck with the search.

Id buy 2000 and up Srx. early 98 and 99 srx's had bad crankshafts. Some people got them welded...others didnt. So id be careful if you dont want expensive problems. Plus with the 2000 and up you get the dual beam headlight. This is a MUST.
As far as the viper goes. My dad has and 02 Viper Er. Brother has O2 viper non reverse. Both these sleds have been trouble free over 5000 miles on both. No problems with the viper. i would however recommend reverse. Suckers are heavy and when you need it you will be wondering why you would ever go without it. You can however add it if you buy a non.

I would go for an 01-02 SRX.. They had the dual warmers. If u find one with ohlins even better

The 04 viper S was the best viper made IMO ride, style, comfort
