My old 2001 vmax 600 needs a new battery. Right now it has the style that i call a two year throw away where you fill your own acid and need to trickle charge it all the time or it dies..
Is there any batteries for this style sled that are the non maintain kind like an apex/attak have for example?

that is the same style that is in the rx series sleds when you get it and replace it. there is a gel one that some of the guys on the 4 stroke side are using to cut down on weight. the origonal in my sled made 4 yearswith out ever being charged. i replaced it because it was starting to need a boost at -40c ever once in awhile. brother is using old batt in his viper.

The last I knew of, there is no gel battery that is the same size as the original. They are coming out with more of them, so there may be one available now.
I am using an Odyssey PC680 in my Venture, which is about the same shape as the original, but smaller, with more power. I am using gel/dry charged/glass mat batteries in all my vehicles. More power, longer life, no need to check level and add water.
One of the best things is that no matter how careful you are with preventing it, there always seems to be some corrosion from acid leakage around the battery. With a gel battery, everything stays clean and dry. Another big plus is no, or nearly no terminal corrosion.
The initial cost is higher, but may be cheaper in the long run. Batteries Plus is a good place to buy or eBay.

You can use the Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) battery which is completely sealed. (non-spillable) They have no vent tube and will take vibration very well.
They do require a temperature sensing charger though. A "Battery Tender" charger is perfect for these type batteries. They are automatic, low amp output and temperature sensing chargers.
An AGM battery will out-perform a Gel Battery in colder conditions. (below 32*)
The Deka AGM battery for your 600 is a PN: ETX18L. For your Apex it is a PN: ETX14.
I use these batteries and charger and have had great success. I remove the batteries at the end of the season and hook them to the charger to completely charge them up and then again before riding season.

Where to buy Batteries
I prefer Deka Batteries myself. Do a search for Deka Batteries/East Penn and click on the dealer locator and enter your zip. They are headquartered out of Pennslyvania. East Penn bought out Deka a few years ago.
