if your running triple pipes and some dialed in clutches it will be good race
Yes,, will be a close race if you have triples........

if you can beat the mxz 700 you will not have a problem with the 800.. the 700 was just as fast as the 800 in the zx chassie..

since he is a friend of yours:
The 800's are notorious for a few things.
The carb boots delaminate. Make sure he takes the time to examine them. Often you have to get right in there with a very good light. Check the bottoms and look for metal showing through. Either way he should go with the vf3's it puts the snap in snappy.
The case seal behind the clutch is know for leaking. You can usually see the seal working it's way out. There is a retainer kit you can buy. You can replace the seal without removing the motor and splitting the case.
There's a alumi brace across the front of the sled and 2 braces that mount from there to the nose. It will crack under the little plastic piece that's riveted where they meet. The 2 bolts under the crack are the bolts for the top shock mounts. So you'll want to weld those up and keep an eye on them.
The oil tank will oval out and start to leak. Don't waste money on a new cap or tank. They sell an alumi insert or you can turn one out of delron if you have the equipment or friends that do.
The recoils go out. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ROPE TO PULL START YOUR SLED OFF THE CLUTCH. Not a big deal. We'ver rebuilt a few but the best remedy has been to buy a new one for $100. If it has an alumi disk on the outside of the black plasic case it has already broke once.
Double check the validity of the mileage. I'm not sure if there is a way to reset the mileage or what. Any how, if you push the button on the odometer enough it will go through mileage, trip, etc. eventually it will look like jibberish. What it really is is an hour meter. it;s not a number it's a lower case h a space and some numbers like h 3214.5. I've looked at sleds that were advertised as low mileage maybe 1500 and the hour meter is over 5000 hours, It's possible the sled averaged 25 mph but it's an 800...i doubt it. Wanna do 25 buy a vintage.
Not sure if it's an issue for you but the summit will come with DPM. Some renegades do some don't. DPM auto adjusts for altitutude
The 01-02 carbs are ok but you'll want to buy 03 carbs. They are hooded and have another advantage I can't remeber right now. You'll pick up a mile or two per gallon. With clutching, helix, and carb upgrade, drop a tooth. With that he'll be tough for a 700. It'll run with an xp or apex.
Nothing too bad, you just have to be on top of it.
